Pastoral Center and Narthex Project Update The Project Committee, consisting of Father Philip, many parishioners, architects, and Parish staff and chaired by long -time parishioner, John Markel, continues to work on the Pastoral Center and Narthex project. This past week, the committee reviewed final design and development work. As we move forward, architectural designs will be formulated and shared with everyone at a Parish community meeting to be held in September 2019. Please watch for announcements in the bulletin, the Beacon, and on the Parish website. As for pledge activity, we have $10.3 million in new pledges which will be added to $4 million in Church savings bringing the total pledges to $14.3 million. The projected costs are $16 million. We appreciate your continued redemption of pledges - each month we move closer to the 75% cash in bank (about $12 million of the $16 million project costs) required by the Diocese to begin construction. Pledge redemptions average over $200 thousand each month. We have approximately $9.3 million total in the bank for this project, or 57% of the estimated total costs, well on our way to the 75% Diocesan requirement and our groundbreaking in June 2020. Construction is projected to be completed by the summer of 2021. If you have not yet made a sacrificial pledge, now is the time to consider joining in these efforts. Please contact the Parish Business office at (949) 429-2874 for information about pledging to the project. 11th Annual Sarah DeMille 5K Memorial Run and Pancake Breakfast Saturday, July 20, 2019 Check in begins at 6:30 a.m., and first race begins at 7:30 a.m. Santa Margarita Catholic High School 22062 Antonio Parkway, Rancho Santa Margarita for more details and to register Link: (https:// www.smhs.org/support -smchs/signature- events/sarah-demille) For questions, please call 949.766.6080 or email advancement@smhs.org The Most Holy Trinity Page 4
Jesus is Really Present In three recent conversations, people told me that they think the majority of Catholics do not believe that Jesus is really present in the Eucharist. Could this be? I hope not. The Eucharist is our greatest Treasure, and is at the center of our life as Catholics. Jesus tells us clearly, “Unless you eat the flesh of the Son of Man and drink his blood, you do not have life within you. Whoever eats my flesh and drinks my blood has eternal life.” (Jn. 6:53-54) We believe that when Jesus said “This is my body….This is my blood” during the Last Supper, he meant what he said. And he gave his Apostles and their successors the power to “do this,” that is, to continue to transform bread and wine into his living Body, Blood, Soul, and Divinity. We call the transformation of bread and wine into the living presence of Christ transubstantiation. The bread and wine keep their outward appearance in every respect, but the reality— the substance—is changed. After the Consecration of the Mass, they are no longer bread and wine. They are the living presence of Jesus Christ. To be sure, this is beyond our power to understand completely, although we know that with God all things are possible. If you would like an extended explanation of what we believe concerning the Eucharist, I strongly recommend this link. http://www.usccb.org/prayer-and- worship/the-mass/order-of-mass/liturgy-of-the-eucharist/the-real-presence-of-jesus-christ-in-the-sacrament- of-the-eucharist-basic-questions-and-answers.cfm Gratefully yours, Fr.
