4 St. John the Baptist, Johnsburg, IL Blessing of Fathers God and Father of all creation, we come before you today with humble hearts. You are our model of a loving father. When we fail and fall short of your expectations, you are always there at the end of the day with open arms, ready to heal the cuts and scrapes of the day and to encourage us to try again and not to give up. We hold up these men in our midst who act in the world as fathers to their children or models of fathers for others. Bless them in their moments of doubt and frustration with their children. Give them warm and open hearts to forgive failures. Provide them with the words needed for encouragement and perseverance. We ask all this in the name of Jesus. Amen. June 20, 2021 † 12th Sunday in Ordinary Time 5 St. John’s Vacation Bible SCHOOL VBS is underway! This year we are taking a special adventure through the life of St. Joseph and the Holy Family. On Monday we learned about who Joseph was, what he did for a living and his part in the becoming the Holy Family. We learned that Joseph was a carpenter, and thanks to the McHenry Home Depot the kids were able to build with their very own woodworking kit! Thanks Home Depot! We worked with real hammers and nails; it was quite an awesome sight! We also learned about Mary, the Annunciation, and Visitation, and how Joseph was a honorable and faithful man. On Tuesday, we focused on the next part of Joseph’s story, the Nativity! Kids got to paint peg dolls of Jesus, Mary, and Joseph and make a stable for them using marshmal- lows and toothpicks. We headed out to the church campus grounds on a scavenger hunt to learn all about the long journey to Bethlehem. Stay tuned for next week’s bulletin for more VBS fun and a special thank you to all those who donated to the Religious Ed Ministry to help make VBS possible this year!
