April 7, 2019 FIFTH SUNDAY IN LENT Flower Delivery Ministry The Flower Delivery Ministry takes lilies and poinsettias at Easter and Christmas to the Our volunteers share why they enjoy homebound members of our church family. being involved in this ministry: Bull and Lynda Wallace: My wife, Lynda and I have been delivering Easter lilies and poinsettias for over 10 years, and we look forward to each new season. Sometimes we visit a familiar face, but mostly we are headed to visit someone who is not familiar to us. The one thing that every visit has in common is that we always get more from the small time spent than does the person we drop in on. We receive the thanks, but we are the ones who benefit the most. Heather Kleider-Offutt: The flower delivery ministry is an easy way to reach out to people who may not otherwise feel a sense of belonging with the church. The joy that the flowers bring to someone is a simple way for us to show God’s love. Sherry Mus: Since my children were small we have delivered flowers to Oak Grove members. While the flowers are lovely, the We want to thank Amity beauty of the flower Farrar for coordinating ministry is in the the over 65 volunteers fellowship between my who deliver the flowers. children and the older Deliver an Easter Lily church members. Delivering flowers is a small way to show these to a homebound member members love. It is also an opportunity for us to honor on Saturday, April 13 and thank the people who came before us at Oak Grove and formed our church into what it is today. To sign up to deliver, please visit ogumc.org, fill out the form in the Oak Grove News, or contact Sandee Edmonson at the church office (404-636-7558) by Sunday, April 7. On Saturday, April 13, from 8:30-10:30 a.m. please pick up the flowers you will deliver. Contact Amity Farrar with any questions (amityfarrar@yahoo.com).
8:30 and 11a.m. ORDER OF WORSHIP April 7, 2019 Fifth Sunday in Lent Gathering Music O Bread of Life from Heaven Gerhard Krapf Welcome and Announcements Ms. Megan Biegel Assistant Director of Youth Ministries (Please complete and pass the red friendship pad at this time.) *Hymn of Praise My Hope Is Built UMH 368 *Affirmation of Faith Lenten Creed (From Patmos Abbey) Ms. Biegel We believe that our lives are held within the encircling love of God, who knows our names and recognizes our deepest needs. We believe that Christ is the Divine Son of the living God, and that His grace is like living waters that can never be exhausted. We believe in the birthing, renewing, enabling Spirit of God, who yearns over our welfare as a mother yearns for her child. We believe that God is in the arid desert as well as in green pastures, and that God abides with us in hard times and good times. We believe that our journey has a purpose and a destination, and that our path leads to a glory we cannot yet imagine. We believe that in the church we are fellow pilgrims on the road, and that we are called to love one another as God loves us. This is our faith, and we are humbled to profess Jesus the Christ. Amen. *Gloria Patri UMH 71 Glory be to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Ghost; as it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end. Amen. Amen. A Morning Prayer and The Lord’s Prayer Rev. Mary Lou Gilbert Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name, thy kingdom come, thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever. Amen. Our Tithes & Offerings Here at Your Table, Lord William Sherwin *Doxology UMH 95 Praise God, from whom all blessings flow; praise God, all creatures here below; Praise God above, ye heavenly host; praise Father, Son, and Holy Ghost. Sermon Final Offers: Dr. Amy Morgan Triumph Holy Communion UMH 12 A Service of Word and Table II Bishop Larry Goodpaster (11:00) The sacrament of communion is a sign and means of receiving God's grace. Therefore communion, like grace itself, is available to all people without regard to age, church membership status, relationship to Oak Grove, or denominational affiliation. The table belongs to God, so all are welcome. There is a mobile station for worshipers who prefer to be served in their seats. If you prefer gluten-free elements, please go to the station to the left of the pulpit. You are always welcome to choose any station by simply walking to the station of your choice. Once you receive the bread, please dip it in the grape juice in the chalice. In our tradition worshipers do not drink from the chalice. After receiving communion you may kneel at the chancel to pray or return to your seat. *Sending Hymn In the Cross of Christ I Glory UMH 295 (Those who wish to join the church are invited to come forward.) *Benediction Dr. Morgan *Postlude Thine is the Glory G.
