Summer 2020 Events and activities for families in Walsall Information for families and professionals PROUD of our Past our PRESENT AND FOR OUR FUTURE 1
Summer Activities 2020 What's on over summer 2020 All events & activities for Summer 2020 have been developed and coordinated taking full account of COVID-19. These planned activities follow government restrictions and social distancing guidance. As guidance changes we may be able to enhance our multi agency offer to you so please ensure you visit our Early Help webpage: www.mywalsall. org/walsallearlyhelp/Summer20/ for weekly updates. We will endeavour to update the pdf version of our booklet which will also be on our website. The activities this year do take a different format given the siltation we are in, however we still have some exciting events lined up, including: Walsall ‘Big Live Music Event’, Thursday 20 August 4pm Back by popular demand a live music event for children and young people to share their musical talents through a live Microsoft teams event. Attendees can join using this link: Click here Calling all aspiring artists! Get in touch with Fiona Wilson at Fiona.Wilson@walsall.gov.uk by Thursday 6th August 2020 where she will advise on how to record the performance and share in preparation for the event. Parents/Carers: Fiona will talk through with you and ask you to oversee the recording and consent for young child/en to take part in this event. View from ‘My Window Art Project’, Ages 9+ An opportunity to take part in a community art project decorating a canvas to show the view from your window. Children and young people will be provided with a canvas and arts resources to take part in the activity. Packs will be delivered from Monday 3rd August. With parent/carers permission, all of the creative canvases returned to us by Monday 24th August will form part of a ‘Community Art Display’. Please contact Paul Dennis for further information and to request an art pack.Paul.Dennis@walsall.gov.uk Celebrating and recognising Walsall Young Carers We recognise the impact Covid 19 has had on many of our families and we want to offer our Young Carers an opportunity to ‘virtually get together’, cooking and enjoying eating ‘together’. All young carers will be provided with the ingredients to prepare and cook a 3 course meal for them and their family, whilst ‘virtually’ meeting up with each other to share their experience, have fun, and say hi to their friends. Please contact Keiron Atkinson to order your community feast pack on Keiron.Atkinson@walsall.gov.uk Black Country Women’s Aid Black Country Women’s Aid are providing interventions for Summer 2020 to support children and young people who live with or who have lived with domestic abuse. The sessions aim to increase awareness of how to stay safe, how to regulate emotions, what is a healthy relationship and building self esteem through a variety of engaging activities. In addition to their weekly quizzes in the below tables, they will also be holding two competitions: Sock Monsters and Dreamcatchers which will run from week 1 with winners announced in week 6. Super wiggles
Family support on a one to one basis over 6 weeks where they will be opportunities to talk to someone over
the telephone and over video links. The type of support can be advice on physical activities, healthy eating, oral
health and ‘screen time’. There will be a 30 minutes live session each week on ‘One You Wasall’ face-book page
with the Super Wiggles team, exciting challenges will be set each week.
The team will also be able to sign post you to a variety of other useful information. The opportunity to participate
in the Super Wiggles Green Space Challenge in four parks across Walsall, all details will be on our Super Wiggles
Facebook page.
Other support includes :
• NHS Health Checks or Health Assessments
• Wellbeing Workshops
• Twelve weeks of lifestyle support – Workshops, Weigh In’s, Exercise, 1 on 1 key worker advice, free Slimming
World vouchers (eligibility criteria applies)
• Signposting to agencies that can offer support such as Stop Smoking, Debt management etc
• Workplace Wellbeing

Kicsters
Kicsters, a project set up and run by Kids In Communication (KIC), is a digital pop-up youth club for young
people aged 10 - 18 living in the Walsall Borough. The Kicsters project delivers local community programmes
that meet the needs of young people, provide opportunities to learn new skills, gain knowledge around topics,
themes and issues they are interested in. The aim is to deliver positive social action projects, achieve and
improve emotional and social capabilities.
Kicsters are offering a range of FREE digital activities both live and on demand from the Kicsters website
www.kicsters. Activities include DJ’ing, Photography, Gaming, discussion groups and more. Young people who
become a member of the project are guaranteed free access to these activities and the opportunity of achieving
awards, have a say about current topics, themes and issues as well as getting 1 to 1 peer support. Currently
there are no plans to deliver face-to-face sessions however, should Government advice change in time for the
summer holidays, they may run sessions in Darlaston and Mossley. These sessions will be advertised at
www.kicsters.co.uk. Kicsters members will also receive invitations to book via email.
Walsall Healthy Spaces
Walsall’s Healthy Spaces Team works to improve and share our community green spaces and sports sites to
encourage communities of all ages to take part in sports and healthy activities across the whole of Walsall.
The summer offer this year is a virtual programme of themed activities for Key Stage 1, 2 and 3
and the families of these children.
Each week our activities will be loaded on our website https://go.walsall.gov.uk/
(follow Parks and Greenspaces) with further details of how to take part in each
activity. They will also be promoted each week through our social media
links so follow us for reminders (please see our table of
activities on page 14).

3Information for Walsall School Colleagues The Dedicated Early Help Offer ‘Keep In Touch (KIT)’ & ‘Things to do Delivered to You’ Keep in Touch (KIT) The Early Help KIT Team is back, the team are a dedicated team who will make contact with children, young people and their families over the 6 week summer term break providing help,advice and support bespoke to each. All school colleagues are asked to refer any child/ren you feel would benefit from this support and who’s parents/carers have agreed to the team contacting them. Information regarding this dedicated and bespoke offer has been sent out within the daily briefings, however if you would like further information or clarity on this please contact Rajinder Hayre or Vasilena on the below details. Things to Do Delivered to You Given the Covid 19 situation, the support has had to be adapted this year, to that offered in former years. Early Help have secured additional funding for children and young people in order to reduce vulnerabilities and risk of exploitation and crime. This funding will deliver the ‘Things to Do, Delivered to You’ Programme over the summer break & Outside the Classroom Programme, from September to March. As part of the KIT referral all schools are asked to identify children and young people who may benefit from this additional support. Things to Do Delivered to You a range of positive activities for children young people to take part in at home during the summer holidays including: • A range of activities to compliment the Keep In Touch (KIT) Offer to Schools diverting young people from the risks of crime • Positive engagement in activities offering something of interest to children and young people • Informal learning opportunities at home through the use of activity packs • Dedicated and bespoke advice and support to children and young people who schools, parents and carers feel would benefit from this 1-1 support. Outside the Classroom A 6 week programme of group work activities offered to children & young people at risk of exclusion from school, at risk of crime or identified as vulnerable within Covid-19 There are two separate parts to this programme A) Children from reception through to year 6, delivered by the Early Help School Ready Team B) Young people in secondary school year 7 to year 11 Delivered by the Multi Agency Early Help Inclusion & Wellbeing Team. A 6 week program offering the opportunity to complete ASDAN accredited awards supporting the development of personal, social and work-related abilities. ASDAN awards provide alternative accreditation for young people who take part in learning opportunities through engagement in positive activities and young person projects for a minimum of 10 hours. Young people can complete an award to show their participation in activities and projects and record their personal development through group work and direct work. The Early Help Hub
The Early Help Hub is the first point of contact for both families and professionals in Walsall seeking advice and
guidance. We identify a family’s needs and seek appropriate support to ensure all the needs of the family are
met. The Early Help Hub provides a coordinated point of contact for all referrals to early help as well as providing

Youth Connect Empowers young people, and offers advice, coaching and support across a wide range of
activities at locations in Walsall.
Youth Connect delivers centre based, detached youth work, sports interventions and mentoring programmes for
young people.
Detached sessions
“Detached youth work is a model of youth work practice, targeted at vulnerable young people, our detached and
outreach sessions are designed to engage with young people in their environments in places where there feel
comfortable and willing to engage with us.
Youth workers will be out in the community during the following days and times.
