CIVIL LIABILITY INSURANCE This compulsory certificate covers you if you cause injuries to someone in France. It will be required if you want to enroll at any University. SCHOLARSHIPS Concerning scholarships for mobility students, please look up with your home institution. CHAPTER 2: LIVING IN THE CITY 12
1. ARRIVAL IN LYON SAINT EXUPÉRY AIRPORT Saint Exupéry Airport is the only airport in Lyon. It is located in the east of the city, 25km away from Lyon. It offers domestic and international flights. The airport website: https://www.lyonaeroports.com A train line connects the airport to the city, called “Rhonexpress”. Tickets can be bought online. It is cheaper if you book tickets in advance: https://www.rhonexpress.fr or directly at the station. Once you’ve taken the Rhonexpress from the airport, you arrive at the central railway station: Gare Part Dieu. From Part-Dieu railway station, check the website foo public transportation in Lyon www.tcl.fr to look for the different transportation options to reach your final destination. GARE PART DIEU (RAILWAY STATION) (1) Part-Dieu / CNSMD journey: Gare Part-Dieu is the biggest railway station in Lyon. It serves many French and European cities and is easily accessible by public transports. To get to the CNSMDL from Gare Part-Dieu, you can: • Take the C6 (bus) to Ecully le Pérollier and stop at Valmy, then walk 10 minutes. • Take the C3 bus to Gare Saint Paul, change at Terreaux La Feuillée and take the C14 bus Les Sources and stop at Greillon. • Take the metro line B to Gare d’Oullins and change at Saxe Gambetta Station, then take the metro line D to Gare de Vaise, stop at Valmy Music building: and walk towards the CNSMDL, or take the C14 from Valmy to the station Pont Koenig. GARE PERRACHE (RAILWAY STATION) Perrache station is also very busy. It is served by the metro line A, T1 and T2 tram lines and many buses. From Perrache railway station, you can directly take the 31 bus to Cité Edouard Herriot and stop at Pont Koenig to reach the CNSMDL. BlaBlaCar! To save money, you can also look for a journey on “Blablacar”, which is a car-share service. For example, if you come directly from Paris and not from the airport, it might be cheaper to go from Paris to Lyon by car-share instead of taking the train. 2. BEING MOBILE PUBLIC TRANSPORT Lyon owns a very large public transport service called TCL. It consists in 4 metro lines, 6 tram lines and many buses. To use public transports, you either have to buy tickets or get a weekly, monthly or annual transport card. Tickets are available at metro and tram station but you can directly buy them on the bus (more expensive). BANK ACCOUNT As a non-French student, it is possible to open a bank account in France. However, you therefore have to provide an address in France. To sum up, you need an accommodation to open a French account. To open a bank account in France, a copy of the following documents is requested: - Attestation of enrollment in a French higher education institution (or a French student card) - Accommodation proof (contract etc) - ID card or passport (front and back) - VISA (for the non-European students) Some French Banks … *The CNSMDL has a special agreement with the Société Générale Vaise, very close to the conservatoire. Their VISA card is free, and they apply no bank account management fees. But there is no obligation to choose this bank. 20

2. AROUND THE CNSMDL LOCATION Dance building The buildings are located in the 9th district of Lyon, along the Saône Music building River (one of Lyon’s two rivers).
