President’s Letter Hello Bloomingdale residents! Fall 2022 It has been a great summer at the Bloomingdale Park District! Our summer participation was fantastic with Summer Day Camp enrollments and The Oasis Water Park attendance spiking upward as did our Summer Concert Series and Movie in the Parks special events. We hope you’ve had the opportunity to get out and enjoy the beauty in our parks, and we encourage you to get outside and play, walk or recreate as we turn our attention to Autumn. In May, Gerace Olson accepted an appointment to fill a vacant Board of Commissioners position. She replaces Karen Johns who was a Bloomingdale Park District Commissioner from April, 2001 until her retirement on April 30, 2022. We welcome Gerace to the Bloomingdale Park District. She previously was a member of the Bloomingdale Parks Foundation, assisted to raise funds for the scholarship program, and supported fundraising efforts of the foundation. As we presented our summer programming, the Bloomingdale Park District staff continued to observe and react to safety standards related to COVID-19 by keeping informed on national and state COVID exposure numbers and other concerns to remain ready for any operational adjustments needed for the protection and safety of everyone. You won’t want to miss our popular special events this season. Mark these dates in your calendar: • Community Appreciation Days: August 29 – September 2 • BOOmingdale Halloween Event: October 22 • Fishing Derby: September 10 • New! Concerts by the Campfire: September 16, September 30, October 14 • Fall Fest: October 7 • New! Princess Ball: November 12 I am happy to share some exciting improvements in your parks: • With grant support from the Illinois Clean Energy Foundation, we converted approximately two acres from mowed turf to a native landscape at Westlake Park. This process takes several months, but these diverse plants will provide important habitat for native and migrating birds and pollinators. • Also, at Westlake Park, this fall BPD will improve the gravel path on the west side of the park to asphalt. This improvement is the result of overwhelming public requests, and we look forward to bringing this to you! • Stratford Park will receive significant improvements in the coming one to two years. The Bloomingdale Park District is proud to announce we received $250,000 in grant funds through the Illinois Department of Natural Resources’ Open Space Lands Acquisition & Development program. This will bring great improvement to the park and the neighborhood- with grant funds stretching your tax dollars! Look for details in the future at www.bloomingdaleparks. org. Visit www.bloomingdaleparks.org for meeting locations. The public is invited to attend. Another improvement is a new weather-related application called RainOut Line. Please utilize this new software to inquire Schedules, minutesabout the statusare and agendas of tournaments, available programs, swim lessons and league play. This is very convenient software to use, and it is updated on a regular basis by our staff. When weather is online at www.bloomingdaleparks.org. questionable, please turn to this new service by going to https://rainoutline.com/search/dnis/3312073208. I look forward to seeing you out in the parks, at the Museum or at the Johnston Recreation Center this fall season! See you in our parks!
