GENERAL MANAGER MESSAGE Dear Members, Happy Valentine's from your PYC team! We appreciate each and every one of you! We hope everyone continues to stay safe and healthy. We are excited about celebrating The Peninsula Yacht Club’s 25th Anniversary. Throughout the year, we will be celebrating this great milestone with specials events for all of you to enjoy. The inside of the Yacht Club was painted during cleaning week. Thank you to Safe Harbor for allowing the opportunity to brighten up the Club. The outside painting of the Club is next, weather permitting. We continue to practice all of our sanitation and cleaning methods to keep our Team and our Members as safe as possible. The Valentine's menu from Chef Andres looks wonderful and we look forward to serving you. Harry and the Marina Team are here to assist you with your boating needs, so please call the Ship's Store for assistance. The Team met about Summer Camps and we are well into planning for this Summer! Our camps will still include sailing, wakeboarding and themed day and toddler camps throughout the summer. Registration will be opening soon! We will continue with our safety protocol, hand washing, sanitizing, taking temperatures, and wearing masks. If you are interested in Wine Society, you may email Monica, at Beverage@Peninsulayacht.com, and she can sign you up for which ever level that will work for you. The Wine Society is a great way to meet members and learn more about the ever evolving world of wine! For all of our new members, we welcome you to the PYC! We are so glad to have you as a part of the Yacht Club Family! Please remember that we send an email to our members each Thursday that will let you know what is upcoming for the next week. We have a member text program, as well as Instagram and Facebook. There are many ways to see what is going on at your club. As always, it is a pleasure to serve you! MARINA NEWS Marina Safety & Security It is always our goal to make sure we have the safest and securest marina on Lake Norman! We try our best to catch and address troubled areas but sometimes we may occasionally miss things. Please let us know about any concerns you may have or things that you may notice that need to be addressed. MARINA MANAGER REMINDER AND ITEMS TO BE AWARE OF: Dock Gates: Due to the rise and fall of the lake the gates sometimes will not latch properly when opened. Make sure to pull the gate shut when coming or going. Power Cords: Very, very important! This topic has been addressed many times before! Make sure cords are inspected (always cut power before inspecting) Dock Lines: Keep dock lines neatly coiled on the dock, also referred to as a “Flemish Flake.” Items on the dock: hoses, cords, umbrellas, umbrella stands, etc. should always be kept in an area that does not impede the dock's walkways. Wooden Platforms: These platforms serve a great purpose but we want to make sure they are safe, secure, installed by a professional, and approved by management. I understand the purpose and we want to always try to accommodate but please seek approval before installing. Harry Smith, Marina & Aquatics Manager Ship’s Store News Make February the month that you replace worn and damaged dock lines, shore power cords, fenders, etc.! All Docking Accessories 10% off 12 | PeninsulaYacht.com
THE SAILING SCENE The month of January has once again provided Lake Norman with some excellent sailing weather for lake wide events such as the Ice Bucket Regatta, the Icicle Race Series, the Polar Plunge and the 1st of the PYC’s monthly social sails. The social sail is intended to get boats off the dock and out sailing in a format other than racing. The next social sail event will be Feb 20th. If you don’t have a sailboat but want to come out and experience sailing, we’ll find a spot of you. Be on the lookout of upcoming Learn to Sail and Experience Sailing events throughout the year. Thank you to 75 volunteers that came out for what will hopefully be the 1st of several blood drives this year. With the stronger winds and cooler air and water temps, please remember to wear your PFD when you leave shore. Greg Polek, Sail Fleet Commander SNOW FLAKE SOCIAL SAIL Saturday, February 20 12:00 - 3:00 PM Join the PYC Sail Fleet for this new Social Sailing event. No entry fee required. More details and registration online. Please note there is a 48-Hr Cancellation Policy on all Club events. 13
COMMODORE'S COMMENTS We have some exciting times ahead of us in 2021 with a rollout of the vaccination and hopefully getting back to some normal activities. I hope you and your families are safe and healthy during these challenging times we continue to live in. In a year like no other we realize how much we truly have to be grateful for. Your Power Fleet has been working hard at planning some fun 2021 events on the Lake with safety always at the forefront for our members to enjoy. We have a couple of new Power Fleet members and the team is exchanging some new ideas for fun activities for our members to enjoy. Would like to thank the Power Fleet of Pamela Black, James Pagano, and Michael Lang for all your efforts and for coming up with some exciting events on the Lake. Two popular events last year are coming back this spring, the Lakewide History Tours and the Lake Scavenger Hunt. Both of these events were well attended and lots of fun for the entire family. Please keep an eye on “The Watch” for more details. Starting in May is the return of the very popular and fun PYC Raft-Ups. The Raft-Ups are a great way to meet other members and have an awesome day on the lake with enjoying some live music and having a hot dog or hamburger while relaxing on the lake. The team is working on what the Raft-Ups would look like in small groups with social distancing. You can participate using your own boat and we will have a shuttle boat available too. 23rd Poker Run planning is well underway with a full weekend of activities over Labor Day weekend. The weekend consists of the Silent Auction and a family theme Treasure Scavenger Hunt. The Poker Run is one of our biggest events and should be a fun filled weekend of activities. Other activities being planned for in 2021 include a PYC Concert on the Lake, and the potential for a progressive dock party. So look out for more on these events this summer. If you have suggestions for other activities or want to get more involved in club events please attend a Social Committee meeting. The meetings are a great way to meet other members. All these events promise to be exciting Lake events for the entire family so look for more information coming out throughout the year to mark your calendar for some fun events on the lake. I know this past year was very challenging and hope 2021 boating events and all the sailing events will bring some fun on the Lake for you and your family to enjoy. With all these activities, let’s not forget the Boater of the Year award. Competing yearly for the Ed Sherrard Power Boater of the Year Award is a fun and competitive challenge that takes place every year. Throughout the year you can participate by attending events to earn points for this annual prestigious award. As examples, earn points for participating in: Raft-Ups Attend Lakewide History Tour Attend Harry Smith’s Boating Seminars Decorating Boat or Dock for July 4th Attend Poker Run Halloween Haunted Harbor Using your boat - Recording Number of Engine Hours, you have used your Boat during the season Participation in Operation Christmas Child Participating in the Lighted Boat Parade Volunteering at Events Stay safe and healthy and see you on the lake.
