SENIOR COLLEGE WHERE YOUR FUTURE BEGINS PRINCIPAL’S MESSAGE Principal’s Message As the College year draws to a close, I would like wish you all a Merry Christmas and a safe and happy festive season. The year has ended with an outstanding Year 12 Presentation Night with a new format. The event started at the College with an afternoon tea and an opportunity for families to meet and mingle. Professional photos were also taken at the College. The formal part of the night was then held at Quinns Baptist College where awards were presented. I look forward to welcoming the new Year 11 students and the returning Year 12 students in 2020 and supporting them in achieving to the very best of their ability and to successfully complete their final years of compulsory secondary schooling. Resource Lists and College Charges and Secondary Assistance Scheme All parents should have received a package from the College with the 2020 Resource List and College Charges. On enrolment you were given a copy of our Information Booklet which contains important College policies and procedures. I encourage you to read it before your child starts the 2020 school year. This booklet is also available on the College website under “Future Students’ then ‘Enrolment’. Resources for the 2020 year are available to purchase from Campion Education by visiting their website: http://www.campion.com.au using the access code ‘XVGE’. Please ensure you order online before Friday, 13 December 2019 to ensure your resources are delivered before the start of the school year. If you would like to purchase second hand books please visit the Sustainable School Shop link: https://www.sustainableschoolshop.com.au Parents who hold a Centrelink Health Care Card, Pensioner Concession Card or Veterans’ Affairs Pensioner Concession Card may be eligible to apply for the Secondary Assistance Scheme (SAS). Please contact the College Finance Officer on 6207 5508 if you require further information regarding SAS. Applications close on Thursday, 9 April 2020. 2020 Start Dates and Times Monday, 3 February All Year 11 students will start school on Monday, 3 February at 8.25am. Students should be at the College no later than 8.15am. All Year 12 ATAR students studying one or more ATAR subjects are also required to attend a compulsory ATAR Preparation Day on Monday, 3 February commencing at 8.40am. All new Year 12 students will also commence on this day. Tuesday, 4 February Year 12 General students will return to the College on Tuesday, 4 February for an 8.25am start time. College Uniform All students are expected to be in full College uniform as supplied by Tudor Uniforms. IMPORTANT INFORMATION 2020 Drop Off and Pick Up Procedures Parents and guardians are reminded that they are not to use the main College car park to drop off or pick up students before or after school. There are parking bays around the College to drop or pick up students. Cars are not to park in the Bus Bay on Anchorage Drive, this is for buses only. The College has recently installed chain gates at the staff carpark entry and exit. Parents visiting the College during the school day will need to call 6207 5500 to enter the College carpark. Students driving to school are to enter the student carpark from Bayfield Crescent only. They are not to use the staff carpark entry. Students can also park in the surrounding roads and parking lay-bys but must ensure there are no time limits on the bays. New Telephone Number For The College The College has just completed a major network update which includes new telephone numbers for the College and all staff. The new number will be activated on 16 December although the old number and new number will be used in parallel for 12 months. The new College number will be advertised again to all parents in the first Information Update for 2020 as well as on the College webpage and Facebook page. Uniform Shop at the College in January Tudor will hold distribution days at the College on Tuesday, 28 January and Friday, 31 January 2020 from 12.30pm to 3.30pm for uniform requirements. In 2020, the uniform shop will be open at the College every Thursday commencing 6 February, from 12.30pm to 2.30pm in the Student Services office. If you have yet to order your uniform requirements for 2020, please visit the College website under ‘Parents’ or click on the following link: https://www.mindarie.wa.edu.au/uniforms School Bus Service Students who travel to school on the ‘School Bus Service’ (orange school bus servicing the Gingin/Lancelin areas) should ensure they have applied to the Public Transport Authority to use the School Bus Service in 2020. Applications can be made online via the following website: http://www.schoolbuses.wa.gov.au/Schools/PrintableForms/tabid/385/Default.aspx then clicking on ‘Transport Assistance’ - ‘Online Services’ then ’Application for Transport Assistance’. As the College finish time is after the school bus leaves in the afternoon, parents are able to apply to claim for a travel allowance. Please contact School Bus Services on 13 62 13 for more information regarding making a claim. Saver Plus Saver Plus is a financial education program that assists people to save for education expenses. Saver Plus can assist families to help pay for educational costs including school uniforms, textbooks, camps and excursions, a laptop or musical instrument hire amongst other things. COLLEGE BOARD ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING The Annual General Meeting of the Mindarie Senior College Board will be held in the College boardroom on Monday, 24 February 2020 at 4.00pm. Parents who would like to nominate to sit on the College Board should download a nomination form from the College webpage under ‘Our College’ then ‘College Board’. Nomination forms should be emailed to julie. ayers@education.wa.edu.au by Wednesday, 20 February. Parents wishing to attend the College Board AGM should email Julie Ayers (see above) or call 6207 5506 by Friday, 21 February. YEAR 11 INFORMATION Year 11 Reports The Year 11 Semester 2 reports were emailed home the week ending 29 November. Please contact the College on 9304 5800 if you did not receive your child’s report. The College will be closed for the Christmas break from midday Friday, 20 December. The Front Office will reopen on Tuesday, 28 January 2020 at 8.00am. 2020 College Captains The College student leaders for 2020 were announced at the last Year 11 Assembly for the year on 7 November .Congratulations to Imogen Webb for winning the 2020 College Captain position. Ashley Moss the 2019 Captain farewelled the students then handed over the reins to Imogen as the new College Captain. Jayden Dale and Bronte Fishwick were also acknowledged for winning the Vice-Captain positions and were presented their badges by current Vice-Captain, Jemma Blaze. The College would like to thank the Year 11 Student Councillors who ran the final Year 11 Assembly and were also involved in the Year 10 Transition Day on Monday, 9 December. 2020 Leavers Tops Parents and students are able to collect the 2020 Year 12 Leavers’ Tops from Student Services from 8.15am until 3.30pm until Thursday, 19 December. Collection will also be possiible from Tuesday, 28 January from Student Services. A second and final order will be organised early in Term 1. YEAR 11 REWARD CAMP In week eight of this term, we held the annual ‘Reward Camp’ in Margaret River with forty four Year 11 students attending. Teachers nominated students based on attendance, behaviour and demonstrating the College Philosophies. Congratulations to the students for earning their invitation to attend and for making it such an enjoyable experience. A fantastic time was had by all! CAREERS INFORMATION WORKPLACE LEARNING IN 2020 Workplace Learning commences on Wednesday, 4 March (week 5) 2020. Students will be given information relating to their work placement during the first few weeks of Term 1. There will be a half day compulsory induction program for students new to Workplace Learning and this will occur on Wednesday, 26 February 2020. More information relating to this will be given to students in the second week of Term 1. EXTERNAL VET COURSE IN 2020 Students who have been accepted into an External VET (Certificate) course in 2020 should receive a course outline from the Training Provider delivering the VET program. This information should be sent to the students between now and the start of the 2020 College year. Not all Training Providers follow the same process and therefore if students do not receive the program information, it will be given to them in the first week of Term 1, 2020. The majority of external courses will commence in the second week of Term 1 and Mrs Tracey Loughnan will meet with all of the External VET students concerned during the first week back at the College next year to ensure they have all the required information. SAFETY AWARENESS TRAINING (WHITECARD) Students completing Workplace Learning in the Building and Construction and associated industries will be required to gain the ‘White Card’ (Safety Awareness Training) prior to their work placement commencing on Wednesday, 4 March. The College will provide a workshop on either Tuesday, 18 February or Thursday, 20 February for students to complete this unit. The parents of students who require the ‘White Card’ will be sent an email in the first week of Term 1 explaining the process.
