TARANAKI TŪ MAI 2019 REGISTER AND INFORMATION PACK
10 Pipiri 2019

Kei haku muanga o tō tātou tauheke maunga a Koro Taranaki, Tēnā Koutou Katoa.

Nei te tuku i ngā whakaaro nui ki hō tātou mate huhua o te tau, o te marama, o te wiki, o te wā. E

It gives us great pleasure to welcome you all to the Taranaki Tū Mai ki Ngāti Maru biennial event for
2019. As your hosts for 2019, we will endeavour to cater to the fundamental aspects of the Taranaki
Tū Mai Festival which is based on Taranakitanga, Whānaungatanga and Whakapapa.

The Taranaki Tū Mai Festival is a wonderful opportunity for all our tribes to come together in unity
and to reconnect in a celebration of our past, our present and our future. From our Ngāti Maru
perspective we would like to convey how special it will be to have you all in Tarata at Te Upoko o Te
Whenua Marae for the Pōwhiri on Friday 29 November. We are excited for you to enjoy time on our
whenua and in our environment. It is hoped that we have provided ample time for iwi to organise
this special time in Tarata with us. For comfort, health and safety purposes, we have had to move the
sports and kapa haka in to Inglewood on Saturday 30 November and Sunday 1 December.

Additional information about the festival, together with details for the pōwhiri, the wānanga, all
events, sports and the kapa haka are enclosed in this welcome pack. Please advise us of any special
mobility requirements you may have for the Pōwhiri so we can ensure that all of our iwi and whānau
whānui have the opportunity to attend the pōwhiri in Tarata. Inglewood High School caters to our
whānau who may have special mobility requirements which is a high priority for us to look after
everyone to the best of our ability.

Of course, this year, like every year, the competition will be fierce and I know you will need no
encouragement from me to “play hard and play fair”, however, deeper than the competition is that
the festival is about a celebration of our collective identity as descendants of Koro Taranaki. We
would like to wish you all the very best with your preparations for Taranaki Tū Mai 2019.
