PRESIDENT’S REPORT - AUGUST 2018

Hello fellow Club Members,

It was pleasing to see such a large attendance at the Club AGM and Prize giving, and I would like to
thank everyone who turned up to witness the riders be presented with the trophies and the
sponsors prizes, and to enjoy the Spit Roast dinner.

I would like to think that the strong attendance at the AGM would also reflect in the number of
people who can find the time to support their Club at administration level.
A big thank you to the people who were part of the team in 2017 who have moved on. Some are
even getting back to some racing after a stint at committee level.
Also thank you to the new members of the club that came on board as a committee member.
These are the people that do a fabulous job so that riders get to ride.

A Club is just that, a gathering of like‐minded people with an end result in mind; that being to go
motorcycle racing ‐ which includes being a committee member.
The Club is still looking for a secretary, and I am grateful to Trevor Heaphy who is holding the
stand‐in secretary position.

So if anyone has the Club at heart and can see them having some time spare, talk to us, and we will
see how we can fit you into the team. I am sure Club members would appreciate it ‐ and who knows,
you may enjoy it.

The club also needs MNZ officials. MNZ is holding a training day on the 4th of August at the Club
Rooms. Mark your calendar and register to attend, lunch is provided and the start is at 9.30am ‐ to
around 4.00pm.
Planning is well in place for the Club Series rounds and the 6‐Hr Motul race, so all the best with your
preparations for the coming season.

Cheers,
Paul Stewart | AMCC President

Daniel Mettam
Next generation New Zealand roads talent Daniel Mettam has recently signed up to pilot Wilson
Craig Racing’s proven Supersport and Superbike Honda machines, for the remainder of the 2018
Irish roads season.

It’s fair to say since his exploits at the start of the season at Cookstown, where he secured
Supersport B race honors plus a Super Twins rostrum finish, he marked himself out as
unquestionably a racer with a huge potential on the Irish roads.

Multiple times a podium finisher at his nation’s most famous roads event, the Cemetery Circuit
Races, mid‐May saw Mettam venture into the international roads scene for the first time, at the
Vauxhall International North West 200.

As at Cookstown and Tandragee prior to an incident in qualifying, he showed a mature professional
approach in adapting to the fabled Triangle course.

Banking top 20 finishes within the Supersport races, Mettam who hails from Glen Eden, New
Zealand, quietly went under the radar with his steady, solid, accomplished performances.

Impressing many astute roads aficionados this year, he’s also captured the attention of various team
managers including new lead sponsor Wilson Craig.

Following in the footsteps of the likes of Guy Martin, Keith Amor, Cameron Donald, William Dunlop,
David Johnson, Jamie Hamilton and Derek McGee, he is the first racer from New Zealand to compete
for Wilson Craig Racing.

His first outing aboard the striking red, silver liveried Wilson Craig Honda’s takes place next
weekend, at the popular Skerries meeting.

Additional future events on the horizon with the WCR team include the MCE Insurance Ulster Grand
Prix, plus the Armoy Road Races which celebrates this year ten years of hosting first class closed
roads action.

Speaking about linking up with multi international road race victors Wilson Craig Racing, an
extremely happy Mettam stated:

“After the north west 200 I wasn’t sure if I would race the rest of the season here, and things
weren’t working out where I was.

I nearly got back onto a plane to head back to New Zealand when I got in contact with Wilson Craig
Racing.

Soon after that we sorted a deal to see me through the rest of the Irish road racing season and the
Ulster GP, riding a 600 and a 1000 superbike.

I’m very happy to join such a good and well known team and I am looking forward to the racing,
riding some top bikes.”

Mt Wellington To Close

Big news from the AMCC Buckets is that Mt Wellington Kart Track is to close, from Sunday 7
October, 2018 onwards. This is a venue they have been using since the late 1980’s.

Another sad day for motorsport in Auckland, following on from the Western Springs announcement.

Round Three of the Buckets on September 22/23 will be the FINAL AMCC Buckets event at that
venue, and the Buckets Committee is hard at work securing venues for the balance of their season.
More news soon, so watch this space.

Can You Help ?

I am after historic programmes / results / images / event reports ‐ for the AMCC Club Series,
and/or the AMCC Buckets.

To add into a Club Archive – and there will likely also be a Book sometime (as time allows). 

                 Hyosung & Ninja Cup

Dear Cup Fans,

It’s been eight years since the Hyosung Cup was just a twinkle in my eye. I took the concept to the
Road Race committee of the AMCC who embraced the idea, and so it began. Seven seasons later it is
still very strong, and sets a record for longevity of one‐make racing.

The Cup hasn't changed much over these years other than the introduction of the X4R singles, the
addition of special rounds at events like NZV8's, Historic GP, MotoFest and of course a couple of
endurance races. We have raced at 4 circuits, have had 4 Champions, and our first Ladies Champion
this year. Over 200 riders have had the Cup experience, and we have played some part in the careers
of National and European Champions.

To have had the support of significant backers of road racing, like WIL Sport for 5 years, and Carl Cox
Motorsport for the last 2, has added massively to the profile and credibility of the Hyosung Cup.
The quality of racing, our Le Mans start, and huge fields also make it a popular class for spectators.

With the continued support of you all as the Cup Competitors, Carl Cox Motorsport and the AMCC
season 8 is approaching fast ‐ and I think it is time we changed things up just a little.
And so I am very happy to announce a new class of machinery that is eligible for our Cup.
The new Kawasaki Ninja 400is our bike of choice. This new model replaces the very successful Ninja
300, and being more powerful and lighter than its predecessor, it is proving to be an awesome
choice for the World Super Sport 300 class.

The plan is to run the Ninja 400 as a separate class within our Cup. The Hyosung’s will still play a
starring role, but now we have an option for those of you who would like to step up to a faster bike,
but remain in our Cup family and enjoy all the things that make our Cup so much fun. There are a
few details to finalise but basically there will be a Cup for the Ninja 400's and a Cup for the
Hyosung’s. Both classes will be on the grid together, with the Ninja's starting first. We anticipate the
fast riders lapping HD in around 1.15's so significantly quicker than our 250 Hyosung’s. There will be
separate prize money and points also for each class.

Special Offer;
In alliance with Carl Cox Motorsport, Spectrum Motorcycles are offering the first 10 Hyosung racers
to apply a *$2,000 trade in for their Hyosung Cup bike on a brand new Ninja 400. The Ninja will also
come with a $500 in store voucher which you can spend on tyres or gear of your choice (excluding
the Cup rego fee). Items are totaled at RRP. The Cup Registration fee ($250) must be paid when the
new bike is picked up for this offer to be used. We also plan to supply race fairing packages, and of
course race prep services. New stock of Ninja's arrives early August and we will need a deposit to
secure you a bike as they sell very quickly. We can also offer MTF Finance (TAP) at the Barrys Point
Road office. If you take up MTF Finance, our office will pay $100 towards your Cup registration fee.

The supplementary regs which now include the Ninja 400 are available. For the 2019 NZSBK the
Ninja 400 will not be eligible for Supersport 300, but regardless of that there will be the option to
cross enter your Ninja with another class on the day (a Ninja 300 finished 2nd in Pro Twins at the
Levels NZSBK).

* Subject to inspection and bike must be in a "raceable", tidy condition.

So I hope you are all excited about another season of awesome racing, and I will update with more
news shortly.
