Dear Friends 2020 was an year, full of lessons. From the surprise of a pandemic to the comfort of being at home, from the pain of seeing friends and family suffer to the joy of adapting to new normal, the year taught us many things. When we lost all hopes it showed us new path. When we felt low, it lifted our spirits but most importantly it gave us a chance to be hopeful, grateful and value health and our near and dear ones above everything else. This year was a real change maker in our lives. Let's preserve the memories of 2020. Let's remember the lessons and forget the pain. Lets welcome not just 2021 but the rest of our lives with hopes in our heart, love in our eyes and joy in our words. Let's promise ourselves to be more compassionate towards others. Let's make our planet a better place. With lots of love Anuradha Chandak District Chairman 20-21

Festival of Makar Sankranti and positive Thoughts Rachana Malpani District Secratery 2019-20 District 313 Every end marks a new beginning. Keep your spirits and determination unshaken, and you shall always walk the road of glory. With courage, faith and great effort, you shall achieve everything you desire. I wish you a Happy New Year to all my Dear Inner wheel Friends! India is the land of festivals. Makar Sankranti is one of the important festivals that is celebrated on 14 or 15 January depending upon the solar cycle, all over the country with great joy and happiness. It is celebrated with different names such as Pongal in south India, Bihoo in Northern India, Lohari in Punjab Magh Bihoo in Assam. But the ultimate aim of the festival remains the same throughout the country that is spreading prosperity, togetherness, and joy. The word Makar Sankranti derives from two words Makar and Sankranti. Makar means Capricorn and Sankranti means transition, so it marks the transition of the sun in the Capricorn (Zodiac sign) and sun starts its Uttarayan. So the days in Northern Hemisphere become longer and the nights become shorter. Importance of Makar Sankranti The shift of sun into Capricorn is of divine importance and we Indians believe that taking a dip in the holy river Ganga specially at Prayagraj during Kumbha Mela at the time of Makar Sankranti washes away all our sins to make your soul pure and blessed, signifying the increase of spiritual light and reduction of materialized darkness. It’s a festival of togetherness and enjoying different food delicacies. The main cuisine of this festival is sweet made of Til and jaggery that add sparks to the festival. Kite flying is also a great part of the Festival, during the day the whole family enjoys kite flying and the sky is filled with a lot kites of colors and various designs. Charity on Makar Sankranti -Charity is also an important part of the festival where donating wheat, rice, and sweets to the needy and poor is believed to bring prosperity and happiness in life and removes every difficulty from the person’s life. That is the reason it is called Khicheri in Uttar Pradesh and Bihar. To sum it up, it is a festival of great importance not only from a religious point of view but also from a scientific view too. it is a festival of happiness and joy and socializing with people. The true aim of the festival is to be respectful to others and live your life in peace and harmony with others. Above all, be sweet to people just like the til and jaggery that unites to form a mouthwatering delicacy.
