The Cyclops American Legion Dewey Lowman Post #109 May / June 2018 - Our 85th Year Commander’s Message Memorial Day It seems as though my time as Post Commander is quickly coming to an end. The past two years have been a wonderful experience. I would like to thank all of the volunteers and officers that have worked tirelessly to ensure our post runs efficiently. I will continue to work with post members and officers and advise the next Commander when I can. Looking to the future, we have post elections coming up at the May Membership Meeting. If you are considering running for an office, please contact Pat Miller, Kirk Trieber or Vernon Wilkens. Becoming more involved on your post is a very rewarding experience, plus you get a chance to work with some great people! The past couple of months have kept us busy, with the Bull and Oyster Roast, bar events and the Queen of Diamonds jackpot growing, we pulled together and made them all successful events. VA and R Dewey Lowman Unit 109 is a proud partner with the United States of America Vietnam War Commemoration sponsored in part by the Department of Defense. As a partner the Unit will be conducting a pinning ceremony at MCVET in Baltimore at 11 AM on May 26th. Plans are to welcome home 150 Vietnam Veterans and thank them for their service to our country in a difficult time. The veterans will also be pinned with a special commemorative pin only available at these special OUTSIDE FLEA MARKET May 5th ceremonies. We received this thank you letter from the young man we are sponsoring for Boys State this year. Thank you very much for sponsoring me for Boys State this year. I am excited about the opportunity to be exposed to the leadership and legislation process of local governments. I believe this experience will be a great asset in my life. Having many family members that have served in the military I appreciate the work that the American Legion does. I will make sure to work very hard and represent Post 109 well. I am looking forward to the orientation on June 12th. Thanks again for this opportunity. The Original 27 Flags The 27 Flags Unit honors our flag at events throughout the year. Memorial Day at the Arbutus Flag Pole, July 4th and other parades, Labor day and other occasions.
