GODDARD, PRINCIPAL Congratulations on an outstanding school year! I am pleased to announce our new Board: President - Norm Gordon Vice President - Sheila Griffith Treasurer - Pamela Smith Secretary - Dee Pinkowitz Fundraising Coordinator - Carmen Frazier News from the Mill – June 2021 Page 5
This Fall promises to be an intense, full and active season for the WMHS community as our building re-opens, and all the wonderful activities we enjoyed in previous years - in-person classes, sports, and extracurricular activities - return. THERE WILL BE MANY WAYS TO GET INVOLVED! In particular, we can use folks to assist the PTSA with membership, website maintenance, publicity, representation at the County level, and much more. We are looking forward to playing an integral part in helping to re-invent a rich community for students, staff, parents, and MV residents. If you are interested in any of these or in other ways to contribute, please let me know: ngordon0522@gmail.com. It has been an honor to serve these past few months and I am eager to see Watkins Mill reach its potential in 2022 - the sky's the limit! See you this Fall! Norm Gordon Acting President WMHS PTSA FRIENDLY REMINDER We have a significant number of parents picking up their students after 2:15 p.m. This is a friendly reminder that parents are not allowed to sign out students after 2:15 p.m. without prior authorization. It creates a safety issue with buses at dismissal, and it interrupts class instruction. If you need to pick up your student early, please send in a note, so the student is prepared to leave class at the requested time. FAMILY FOOD MARKET: As a reminder, Families will receive a pre-sorted box of non-perishable goods and a bag of fresh produce. Social distancing and safety protocols will be followed at all times. Families will not have to provide student names or ID numbers. Upon arrival, you will be asked the total number of people living in the household, how many adults over 65, and how many students. The final FFM of this school year will be held at Watkins Mill High School on Wednesday, June 16, 2021, from 11:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. *while supplies last. News from the Mill – June 2021 Page 6

What a school year 2020-2021 was. We started with virtual sports and ended with in person Fall and Spring sports as well as Senior engagement activities for our Winter sport senior student-athletes. This school year sure brought a lot of challenges, but it also brought a lot of joy and promises for a very bright future for Watkins Mill Athletics. The Athletic Department would like to thank all our coaches, student-athletes, and fans for their support over the last 10 months as we all navigated these uncharted territories. A few updates of things and important dates to look for over the summer months: • Our tennis courts will be closed for about 2 weeks beginning on or around June 15th. o All our tennis courts are being completely redone (new surfaces, new paint, new fences, new nets, and new poles). • Our outdoor Basketball courts will also be closed at the same time as they are getting redone as well. • Fall sports registration will be open on or around July 15th. o MCPS is planning to have a normal 2021-2022 athletic season for all sports. o Information can be found on our Watkins Mill Athletics Website as we near July 15th. o A valid physical within the last year will be required to play o Fall sports will begin on Wednesday, August 11th. • Our track and stadium will remain closed to outside participation and community use.
