                       An Important Job
                                                 BABS Vice-Chairman
DEADLINE FOR APPLICATIONS: 30TH JUNE 2018
The tenure of the current Vice-Chairman Martin Baglow comes to an end on 31st December 2018,
therefore leaving a vacancy for a Vice-Chairman from this date. The role is very important, as it
is normal after two years in that position to progress to become the Chairman of BABS.
Candidates should have a good knowledge and understanding of the Association, ideally gained
over a number of years as a member, and an officer at club level. Previous involvement in the
Association at a senior level would be useful but not essential.
The position is voluntary and does not carry a salary or honorarium. Candidates will have to sat-
isfy the requirements of being a company director and trustee, and references will be required.

This specialised stream is designed to provide
focussed coaching to male, female and mixed
                                           quartets.

Quartets will be coached in a pod of two or three quartets with an equal number
of dedicated specialist coaches. Coaching will be tailored to the quartet, with
  activities structured around specific needs.
The stream offers up to eleven hours of hands-on coaching and four hours of
related break-out or communal quartet-related activity.
This is an opportunity for quartets to get an intensive coaching weekend, that
should not only see improvement, but provide the chance to bond as a
quartet and agree future goals. View the Online

Preparations are well underway and excitement is building for our extra-special 40th Anniversary
Harmony College, held at the University of Nottingham’s Jubilee Campus from the 24th-26th August.
The enrolment website www.babsharmonycollege.co.uk has been open for a few weeks now, and
registrations have been flooding in. This is really is an event that you don’t want to miss.
There is something for everyone at this year’s College – quartets, choruses, directors and budding
directors are all catered for, or if you just want to attend as an individual and attend lectures and
workshops, the Personal Development Stream is perfect. Added to that, we are delighted to bring back
the Youth Chorus stream this year, for male singers aged 25 and under.
The BABS & LABBS faculty on the Personal Development Stream is augmented by none other than
barbershop guru David Wright, and one of the finest voices in barbershop, Eric Dalbey. So, if up-close and
hands-on workshops and lectures are your thing, then this stream is the one for you. Further details
about the stream will be made available shortly.
The Youth Chorus Stream is being headlined by the very talented Trailblazers quartet, and supported by
the members of Vocal Spectrum. Simon Arnott has arranged a song especially for the occasion – Ed
Sheeran’s ‘Perfect’. We have also made the Youth Chorus Stream as cheap and accessible as possible by
making it a Saturday-only stream. So you can spend a day learning from Trailblazers and Vocal Spectrum
with like-minded youngsters, eat some delicious food, sing on an exciting show in the evening, see Vocal
Spectrum headline the show, sing tags until way past bed-time, and then crash out on a comfy bed yards
away from the party, all for £80, or £45 if you choose not to stay over. Bargain!
For further information about the College, including an online prospectus, details of Harmony
Foundation Grants available, and to enrol, head on over to www.babsharmonycollege.co.uk.
Barbershoppers regularly comment that Harmony College is their favourite weekend on the calendar,
and there is no better year than this year to find out why. I look forward to seeing you there.
