PRESIDENT’s message I hope you are having a fabulous February! Next month is our annual meeting and election. Send in your ballot and let your voices be Mililani Town Association heard. Board of Directors This past December, Christmas day to be exact, there was a storm President...................................................Bob Barrett that blew over the island and with it came heavy rain and some very Vice President.....................................Michelle Kidani high winds. Since it was Christmas day, all MTA facilities were closed. Secretary......................................Josie Hart Ka`anehe Treasurer...........................................Valerie Okimoto In the early afternoon I received a text that one of the huge light poles Directors....................................Will Kane, Neil Takeda, came down on tennis court #1. This pole was very big and heavy, 30 Michael Magaoay, Noriko Salangdron, Roger Babcock feet tall and had 4 lights, so when it fell it left a hole in the tennis court surface. Tennis court #1 is heavily used, mostly for lessons, and MTA Staff Managers frequently crowded. Thankfully this high wind event happened on a day that the rec center was closed. I have been at the courts when it is windy and it is scary General Manager David O’Neal, CMCA, AMS, PCAM to think what could have happened if this light, or any other light pole, came down while the 808-440-2614....doneal@mililanitown.org courts were occupied. Assistant General Manager As a result of this incident, we took a look at all the lights and the decision was made to bring in Covenants & Design Manager a contractor and perform a thorough evaluation. As it turns out, many of the lights looked fine Katherine Cueva, CMCA, AMS 808-440-2622....kcueva@mililanitown.org from the exterior but were rusting from the inside out. Once we had the poles taken down, we could open the courts again for daytime play. But we will need to replace all the lights before Controller we can open the courts at night. Lynelle Tamashiro, CPA, CMCA 808-440-2636....ltamashiro@mililanitown.org I am so thankful that no one was hurt. Thank you to Dave and his team for jumping into Aquatics & Safety Manager emergency mode and taking care of this situation immediately. Ask an Expert… Erin Rodriguez Owner of Pearl City Auto Works Over 25 Years in Business Oahu Roads Should your suspension and steering systems be inspected due to our rough roads? Yes. Our vehicles take a beating due to the construction being done and the rough terrains that we need to travel on. Taking a look is a good idea so that it doesn’t cause any more stress and damage to your car. What kind of added stress or damage can be done? If suspension/steering components get worn, they can cause your tires to wear in an untimely manner. Grease boots on these parts get torn from the movement and dry up causing friction which can lead to broken parts. This is a very dangerous incident should this occur. How often should you have your suspension/ steering system inspected? Due to our very rough roads, you should have an inspection every 6 months or so. These systems take on extra hardship because the quality of our roads are poor. Are suspension/steering repairs costly? They can be if you let them pile on one another. I would recommend you repair things as they come up. Repairing problems as they arise can keep cost down. Worn parts can cause other parts to go bad. We take the worry out of keeping your vehicle moving on the road. We welcome your business!
