METERING & 2015 SMART ENERGY INTERNATIONAL 40 MOST INFLUENTIAL PEOPLE IN EUROPEAN SMART GRID The definitive guide to the people driving Europe’s smart grid development INSIDE: SPONSORED BY: • What does 2015 hold for smart grid in Europe? • Who is influencing smart grid strategy? • Who’s who in the sector?
We are the ones who select and implement the disruptive technologies that utilities need to transform the customer experience, and bring in new business models. Customer dissatisfaction, increasing churn and rising cost pressures are leading utilities to transform the customer experience. Digital disruptors are key, with an early focus on mobile Internet technologies and use of social media. The huge volumes of data that smart meters and other smart home technologies will bring, provide an opportunity to serve customers better with more personalized relationships and offers. Capgemini’s Digital Utilities Transformation framework is designed to help Utilities drastically improve the customer experience, enhance the brand and drive down the cost to serve. 1 A note from the editor Across Europe, more than Euro3.15 billion has been spent across more than 460 smart grid projects. This is according to the EU’s Joint Research Centre - which estimates that of this number, 210 are R&D projects, and 250 demonstration. It is further estimated that more than 28 EU member states have smart grid projects in progress. However, behind the projects are the people driving the development and uptake of smart grid across the European landscape, and it is these leaders that this publication acknowledges. It has been said that ‘behind every great man, there is a great woman’... - and behind every great project, is a great leader. A person of vision, courage and conviction who will drive a development, even if it goes against conventional wisdom. Some of the people featured in this report are such people. Visionaries who identified the role of smart grid in the power sector long before it became fashionable to be involved in smart grid, who laid the groundwork for continued development today, and drove forward policy and legislation to enable the large scale rollout of smart grid technologies and projects across Europe. This publication, which combines a mix of traditional career information, also features predictions from these key figures, highlighting where they see developments occurring in 2015. I hope you will find their insights illuminating. Influence is a subjective perspective, and in order to offer as representative a view as possible, we enlisted the help of some of the leaders of various European smart grid organisations and associations to help determine the final list. For their help and input, I offer my sincere thanks and appreciation. As with any undertaking of this scale, opinions around influencers may differ, and I encourage you to share your views on the selection that follows. I know that you will find this publication interesting and thought provoking and welcome your feedback around whom we should be featuring in the 2015 edition. Best wishes Amy Ryan Amy Ryan Editor - European Most Influential Assistant editor - Metering & Smart Energy International
