MY FAVORITE HOLE: BOB LINDENSCHMIDT Photo by Jim Guerard Name: Bob Lindenschmidt Length of Membership: 4 years Favorite Hole: Deer Creek #5 Why? Elsa and I live adjacent to this hole. We see it everyday and love the view. It should be a fun hole to watch the Savannah Golf Championship. Bob’s way to play DC #5: It is a very strategic hole. You need to decide whether to go for the green on your tee shot (and a possible eagle putt) or to lay-up and hope to chip it close. While my scoring average is probably better when I lay-up, it is often too tempting not to go for it. I usually regret that decision, but hey, I have never been accused of being that smart. 12 | OUR CLUB

GOLFING FOR LIFE A commitment to health keeps the pros playing their best at any age FROM OUR HEALTH PARTNERS AT ST. JOSEPH’S/CANDLER C oastal Georgia is not just a great place to golf, it’s also where some of the game’s veteran pros, as well as the newest emerging stars, have hit off their first tee. Savannah’s own Gene Sauers, Hollis Stacy, and Brian Harman are all at different stages in their game, but each of them attributes their lifelong success to a focus on strength, flexibility and a healthy routine. Gene Sauers had several top 10 finishes and three wins on the PGA Tour during his career, but a rare skin condition called Stevens-Johnson syndrome almost took him out of the game forever. In fact, it almost took his life. Sauers was hospitalized for weeks to help his skin heal and to fight off any infection from the syndrome, which can be fatal. But he knew as he came back to health that he wanted to get back on the golf course. “I had to go through a lot of physical therapy and try to get strong again,” Sauers says. “At first I couldn’t hit a pitching wedge 20 yards, that’s how stiff and weak I’d become.” Sauers started out hitting two or three balls in his backyard.
