2021 Moolah® Shrine Potentate Joe Shivley Nobles and Ladies, April was a fun and eventful Celebration for Moolah Shrine. To “re-cap” some of the accomplishments we start with two larger commercial dumpsters to haul off un- recyclable items, while many were donated to a good home as they were no longer needed at Moolah. A new “Bride’s Preparation Room” was created in the former Out State Club room, and a Youth Room is nearing completion in the former Provost Room. Many hours of labor were donated on exterior grounds “spring update” and our friend Splatters applied some fresh paint to several areas in dire need. New office furniture was donated to upgrade our aging desk and cabinets, and we moved Diane Kitsmiller’s office to a more favorable location. Better yet, we had a room full of Fez’s and a little fun at our stated meeting, after enjoying the music from the band while enjoying a true “Masonic Meal” of roast beef, mashed potatoes, and green beans for some. I cannot express my appreciation enough for the support given to “The Pote’s Celebration”. I think most had an outstanding evening with GREAT food, a dynamic band, and some VERY tasty Margarita’s. Nobles, our Masonic Lodges are opening back up and starting to do degree work, I encourage each of you to support their/our efforts. Mark your calendars for June 5th for a Hillbilly Degree, June 16th for a Ceremonial in honor of Jeff Kitsmiller Sr. We are going to eat at 5:00 PM on the 16th with Ladies and guests invited to observe our opening, limited business meeting, and most of the Shrine Ceremonial. It will be a Hot Sands Ceremonial of which the ladies will not observe so get your candidates ready and the petitions in by our May meeting so we can vote on them. To complete the month of June, The Potentate’s Presentation Ball will be held June 26th having been postponed from February due to COVID. It is truly a privilege to serve as your Potentate with the support of the Nobility, for the best Shrine Center in the system. Say your prayer, wear your Fez with pride, and make that extra effort to make a difference in someone’s life. Fraternally, Ill. Sir Joe Shivley 3
Don’t Let Fear Keep You from God’s Vision By: Ron Reynolds Anyone who has ever tried to do anything great has, at some point, come face-to-face with naysayers. • When the Wright brothers tried to fly their first plane, people told them it would never work because humans can’t fly. Prayer itself is an act of faith. These we do not forget • When Moses led the Israelites across the desert, the people complained: “We’re going “Es Selamu Aleikum” to die! We want to go back to Egypt!” We do not lose the ones we • When John F. Kennedy said the United States would send a man to the moon, many love they only go before, people said it could never be done. Where there is everlasting life. Where sorrow is no more. And there the soul will always live If these people had let the naysayers discourage them, imagine where the world would be and peace is everywhere. We today! While some naysayers have evil plans, not all naysayers are bad people. Some may do not lose the ones we love, truly want what’s best for you. They may even love you. God takes them in his care. But they’re not God. April Robert Buchta So don’t treat their opinions like you would God’s opinions. Warren Groves Jack Heidbreder The Bible says, “The fear of human opinion disables; trusting in God protects you from that” Richard Holmes (Proverbs 29:25). Joseph Huighe Jackson Hunter Some of you have been disabled by the opinions of others and you don’t even realize it. Charles Mikusch Others have become addicted to the approval of others. Robert Narens But consider another translation of Proverbs 29:25: “It is dangerous to be concerned with David Smith what others think of you, but if you trust the Lord, you are safe” . Linn Thurman Other people’s opinions can sidetrack you from God’s purpose for your life. When you give more weight to the opinions of others than you do to God’s opinion, you stay on the sidelines when God wants you in the game. You stay locked up in a prison of self-made fear. Don’t let that happen. Let go of your fears and trust God’s vision for your life. He’s your biggest cheerleader. He wants you to succeed, and he’s working in your life so you will. 4

Hospital Referrals Update By: Bob Berry ello, Nobles. I hope you’ve signed up to receive weekly emails from our hospital. If you haven’t, sign up by contacting John Agliata at JAgliata@ShrineNet.org. The St Louis Hospital is still going strong and seeing patients throughout the week. We are getting ready to renew and revitalize our volunteer program which will affect some of you. Let me give you a quick summary update through this March. There’s good news and bad news. First the good news: Donations to our hospital are above goal for the quarter. So, even in difficult times, generous people are trying to help through their donations. Temples and their units that support our hospital are ramping up as Covid winds down, to rekindle fundraising activities. We are also doing some Outreach Clinics (providing care to existing patients) combined with Screening Clinics (for new patients) at remote locations. Would your unit be willing to sponsor an Outreach/Screening Clinic? With donations up and cash being collected, we have ended the first quarter of 2021 contributing to the endowment (as opposed to drawing from the endowment). This is great news and reflects on our hospital staff and their efforts to keep costs low and to keep money coming in. We are also actively searching for a hospital administrator. The bad news is that patient referrals to our hospital continue to be down from where they were in 2019. We desperately need your help. We simply have to get more patients in the door. There are kids out there who need our help but need some help signing up. Can your unit help? Speaking of referrals, see the chart on the next page to see how the various temples in the St. Louis Hospital’s catchment area are doing compared to last year. As you can see, Moolah is responsible for referring 118 new patients to the hospital so far this year – but, we can do better! Let’s set the standard for other temples to follow. More news from the Hospital. The Imperial Board of Governors has decided to rename each hospital to better identify with each hospital’s mission. In fact, two of our facilities are no longer a hospital but are now ambulatory care clinics. Each facility in our system will now be named Shriners Children’s ________. So, what does this mean to the St Louis hospital? Our new moniker is now: Shriners Children’s St. Louis. You will start seeing this in written and electronic media soon. 6

Many restrictions and mandates have been lifted. People are going to restaurants, shopping at their favorites stores and visiting friends and relatives. Moolah is becoming a happening place. The Potentates’ April 10th Western theme party was a huge success. About 300 people were present. The food was excellent with the pork steaks labeled as awesome. The State Line Five band was entertaining, playing many well known Country songs. People had a good time socializing, eating, and dancing. It was a good feeling to return to some resemblance of normalcy. Better times are ahead for Moolah. UNIT & COMMITTEE REPORTS Grand Lodge of Missouri Junior Grand Warden: Charlie Wiegert Greetings Nobles, I hope you know by now that all Lodges are back to work. And as you might imagine, most Lodges have a backlog of degree work. Hopefully many of them will be able to raise some Master Masons by June, and some will attend the June 16th Ceremonial at the Moolah meeting and become Shriners! This is an exciting year for your Grand Lodge as we are celebrating our 200th anniversary. Did you know the Grand Lodge of Missouri was formed in 1821, three months before Missouri became a state! We had a special celebration with a virtual history on Wednesday April 21st, the official day of our 200th anniversary. This presentation is still available to be viewed through the Grand Lodge facebook page and through the Grand Lodge portal. Give it a look, it’s very interesting! The Masonic Education Committee is presenting a Virtual Bicentennial Lecture Series, which you can watch for free. These lectures are on the last Sunday of every month. The next Lecture will be will be held on Sunday, June 27th at 7pm CST on Zoom. The material in this presentation is un-tiled in nature. As such, it is open to non-masons and Brethren from other jurisdictions. All lectures will be live-streamed to the Grand Lodge Facebook page and made available later on YouTube as well. There are a limited number of “virtual” seats for this event and I encourage all Brothers to lock their registration now. You may register on your Grand Lodge portal page. Zoom call information will be sent 48 hours prior to the Lecture. Questions, etc. may be directed to RWB Jacob W. Thompson, at jacobthompson1641@ gmail.com. If you know someone who might be interested in becoming a Mason, you can be the 1st line signer of your candidate’s petition no matter what Lodge they join. Only 1 signer of a Masonic petition needs to be from that Lodge, the other signer can be from any Lodge. Keep this in mind if you have a candidate. It all starts with you submitting the petition for your candidate. Moolah Brew and Cigar Club Dave Jacobi oket14@sbcglobal.net Our first official meeting was May 4, 2021 in the OSU room. UNIT & COMMITTEE REPORTS Nailah Court #107 High Priestess pro-tem: Lady Marcia Jacobi 14-541-3393 Calling all ladies of the Temple or your friends! Did you know that any lady 18 and over can join the Ladies Oriental Shrine of North America? The organization was born on February 14, 1903 in Wheeling West Virginia. The purpose was to extend good fellowship among families of Nobles. The Ladies of that vicinity felt the need for a fun night when their Nobles were enjoying their Ceremonials. The Nobles of Osiris Temple offered hearty acclaim to the cooperation of ladies and thus was realized and appreciated the promotion of Shrinedom throughout their jurisdiction. The order now extends throughout North America. As a result, the growth of the order Grand Council was organized in 1914 and incorporated in 1954. There are now 110 courts and a newly formed club in Mexico City. Speaking of fundraisers, we are having an income tax fundraiser now to help raise funds for the Grand High Priestess’s project. The Grand High Priestess chooses one item on the wish list of her nearest hospital or the last two have raised funds for all 21. Our income tax fundraiser is regarding your age, marital status, children, grandchildren etc. It’s a fun way to raise some money without too much work. Please call me for a copy. In May we will be having an initiation. We welcome new ladies to our Court with loving care. Come join us. Remember every ticket sold benefits your Unit and…… Circus and Ceremonial are coming! Event Reminders: Meat Shoots are happening at the VFW Post 4223 at 215 Military Rd in Lemay, MO! Our next one is scheduled for June 13th at 12:30pm, No meat shoot happening in May. Come have some fun with us and please spread the word and bring your friends. The funds raised help offset the rising costs of insurance and other expenses the Mini Patrol incurs, and the event also provides Fun and Fellowship! If you would like to help out, please arrive around 11:30 am for set up. YOWAY 5K Anyway! This event is now live. You can run, walk, bike, kayak, swim…however you do it is up to you! The important part is to have fun doing it, while supporting both Gateway 500 and YOMO. Included is a very collectible race medal and a T-shirt/Medal combo depending on which package you purchase. This has been posted on Facebook and www.moolah.org under Event Registration. Registration ends on August 31st. Captain Heins has plans for a practice day for our carts. This is a time we can run and attend to any needs that our carts may have. It is also a great day to enjoy some fellowship and fun with our fellow Nobles. The date of this is May 13th and the obstacle course will be set up. As a reminder, we meet on the 2nd Wednesday of the month in the YOMO room. Please check your emails for updates. Also, if you are on Facebook please connect with Moolah YOMO as well. Ron sends out regular emails. If you are not receiving them, please let him know. The YOMO Presentation of Officers is on hold at this time. When we settle on a new date, we will let everyone know. More details to come, please check your email. A huge Thank You at all who came and participated at the April Meat Shoot! It was an awesome day! See you on the streets! Fellowship and Fun in 2021! Fun Flamingo Facts: Flamingos find strength in numbers for breeding success, they are birds which do not live in small flocks but rather, flocks of up to a million or more have been recorded.
