What it is: An 5 part series that explores the foundational elements and core concepts of discipleship. CHILDREN’S MINISTRY (RELIGIOUS EDUCATION/PREP) A Special Mass to Prepare Our Confimandi Plus a Final Lunch for the Homeless Delivered We held a very special Mass for our Confirmation candidates last Sunday to prepare them for their upcoming sacrament. Many thanks go to Father Dan Cassidy for celebrating the Mass, to Isabel Hernandez for sharing her beautiful voice, to pianist Sarah Cozzi for accompanying her, to Ron Vanasdlen for planning our liturgy and to our great lectors: Sullivan Pierre, Caidyn Lowry and Liliana Amador. We are ready! Please keep the Confirmation candidates in your prayers as they continue their faith journey. Total number of lunches delivered to Connections for the Homeless this year is more than 1,200. Each individually bagged lunch included a sandwich, fruit, snack, drink and note of encouragement. One client was tearful Sunday when the lunches arrived, reading the note and saying, “This is just what I need to continue on.” As Maureen Valvassori, Director of Pastoral Care and Outreach, said, “We fed their bodies and their souls.” Thank you to all of our 8th graders, their families and especially to Claudia Goodrich for coordinating the effort and to the parent volunteers who helped deliver. You made a difference!
SACRED HEART SCHOOL LOOK WHAT’S HAPPENING AT SACRED HEART SCHOOL! Jr. kindergarten went on a spring scavenger hunt yesterday. They looked for lots of spring things to check off their lists, like a bud, a bird, and a bug. They are learning about the letter S and spring, discussing what they see in the spring. They will also be planting sunflowers this week to watch grow. The Jr. Kindergartners took magnifying glasses to explore flowers and bugs outside! Kindergarten is back and busy creating! 8th grade wrapped up their chemistry unit with two very cool experiments demonstrating how chemical reactions produce new substances. The 1st was a demonstration by Mrs. Mack called elephant's toothpaste. When we mixed our compounds they produced a new foamy substance that shot out of our flask creating a rather messy compound that resembles the toothpaste that an elephant might use to brush it's tusks. In the second reaction, students mixed two polymers that resembled honey and pancake syrup to produce their "foam gnomes". Both experiments were a terrific way for students to see chemical reactions creating new substances.
