Dear Faith Family of Our Lady of Grace,
Have you ever met a people pleaser? Those who say what you want to hear but have no inten on of following through? Or those
who over promise and under deliver? It can be challenging to hear the words of Jesus in the parable this Sunday about these behav-
iors. Despite our best inten ons, it’s our ac ons that truly mean more than our words. We have many phrases in English that speak
to this: “Ac ons speak louder than words,” “By their ac ons you shall know them,” “I don’t believe what you say. I believe what you
do,” or “People lie, ac ons don’t.” All of these expressions get to the heart of our message today. Without ac ons, our words fall
short. As we go about our lives this week, let us make an extra effort to think carefully before we commit ourselves or say we will do
something. Simply modifying a commitment with the words “I intend to...” or “I will make my best effort to...” may be all we need
to temper expecta ons. By avoiding the trap of being people pleaser, fla erer, or who one over promises and instead being a per-
son of ac on and doing on behalf of others, we will be living the gospel message.
As people who serve and try to be er the kingdom of God here at OLG. We have had a few changes with personnel while we have
been naviga ng through this pandemic and offering services and liturgies outside. I want to thank Karim Cama who these last cou-
ple of years has been an office staff member and most recently the business manager. She decided to move on, and we wish her
well in all her future plans and endeavors. We welcome Kevin Schaffels who is no stranger to our OLG Faith Family. He is a former
school parent, lector, finance council member and fair commi ee member. We wish him well as he con nues to bring his gi s to
our community. We must li our eyes to the signs of our mes and step up knowing that we are open, liturgies con nue, ministries
are beginning to come back, and life is given more purpose. I hope we can be what we say in our mission statement “a community
called to know Jesus, love Jesus, share Jesus and transform our world!”

Querida Familia de Fe,
¿Conocen a alguien que siempre quiere complacer a los demas? ¿Aquellos que dicen lo que quieres oír pero no enen intención de
seguir adelante? ¿O los que prometen y cumplen con las promesas? Puede ser di cil escuchar las palabras de Jesús en la parábola
de este domingo acerca de estos comportamientos. A pesar de nuestras mejores intenciones, son nuestras acciones las que real-
mente significan más que nuestras palabras. Tenemos muchas frases en inglés que hablan de esto: "Las acciones hablan más fuerte
que las palabras", "Por sus acciones las conocerás", "No creo lo que dices. Creo en lo que haces, o "La gente miente, las acciones
no". Todas estas expresiones llegan al corazón de nuestro mensaje de hoy. Sin acciones, nuestras palabras se quedan cortas. A me-
dida que avanzamos en nuestras vidas esta semana, hagamos un esfuerzo extra para pensar cuidadosamente antes de comprome-
ternos o decir que haremos algo. Simplemente modificar un compromiso con las palabras "Tengo la intención de..." o "Haré mi
mejor esfuerzo para..." puede ser todo lo que necesitamos para atemperar las expecta vas. Al evitar la trampa de ser personas
agrada, halagadoras o que uno sobre promesas y en su lugar ser una persona de acción y hacer en nombre de los demás, viviremos
el mensaje del Evangelio.
Como personas que sirven y tratan de mejorar el reino de Dios aquí en OLG. Hemos tenido algunos cambios con el personal mien-
tras hemos estado navegando a través de esta pandemia y ofreciendo servicios y liturgias fuera. Quiero agradecer a Karim Cama
que estos úl mos dos años ha sido un miembro del personal de la oficina y más recientemente el gerente de negocios. Decidió se-
guir adelante, y le deseamos lo mejor en todos sus planes y esfuerzos futuros. Damos la bienvenida a Kevin Schaffels que no es
ajeno a nuestra familia de fe OLG. Es un ex padre de escuela, lector, miembro del consejo de finanzas y miembro del comité de la
feria. Le deseamos lo mejor mientras con núa llevando sus dones a nuestra comunidad. Debemos elevar los ojos a los signos de
nuestro empo y dar un paso adelante sabiendo que estamos abiertos, que las liturgias con núan, que los ministerios están em-
pezando a regresar y que la vida ene más propósito. Espero que podamos ser lo que decimos en nuestra declaración misional
“una comunidad llamada a conocer a Jesús, amar a Jesús, ¡compar r a Jesús y transformar nuestro mundo!"

community having come here in 1998 when my oldest son started Kindergarten.
Kevin Schaffels, Both Benjamin (’07) and my youngest son, Tristan (’17) are proud graduates of
Director of Admin. & Ministerial Operations OLG School and as of next May, will both be graduates of Crespi Carmelite High
School as well. Since being at OLG, I’ve had leadership roles in both the Cub
Scouts and Boy Scouts, the Carnival Commi ee (Finance Room) Parish Finance

Council, and have been assis ng both the school and the parish in their
Receptionist / Wedding Coordinator budge ng and financial repor ng for the past 12 years. I am also a Lector

1994, most recently as the Chief Financial Officer for the Stephen Wise Temple
and Schools in Los Angeles. Personally, I have recently become engaged to
