Page 3 MAS News October 2020 Shelter Friends In every newsletter, I try to include all the donations made in memory or honor of people or pets, and then there is a paragraph saying Thank You to our regular donors. These donors are the ones who send in a donation just because. Not in memory or honor of anybody. They don’t want a thank you letter, they just want to help. Some of our regular donors send in on a monthly basis, some yearly, but usually on a steady basis. Most of the time it’s just small amounts of money, but it all adds up. As these regular donor names become familiar, they start to feel like friends. I may not have met these people and wouldn’t recognize them if I saw them on the street. But when I see their name on the return address label it triggers a memory of this friend, and I smile. One of these regular donors, Phyllis Wilson, passed away on March 12th and when I saw the obituary, I felt like I had lost a friend. Phyllis had been a regular donor for 11 years and I will miss seeing her envelope waiting for me in the post office box. Sometimes her donation came with a cheery message, sometime not. But I always knew she was thinking of the pets and how she could help. Another friend that I think fondly of is Lee Mattson. You may notice that her name appears regularly in our ‘In Memory Of’ section. She was a regular donor and volunteer and when she passed away on February 19, 2013, her daughter and son-in-law have honored her by contributing in her name on a regular basis. When I see this monthly memorial, I remember Lee and I know that this memorial donation has kept Lee and her love of animals alive. So when I say Thank You to our regular donors, please know that it’s not just a paragraph added without meaning. I do recognize your donation and how you help us to provide a roof, electricity, personal care and medical attention to all the animals who pass through our doors. I think of you as my friend and I smile when I see your name on the envelope. And I hope that when you send in your regular donation, you know that you’re sending it to a friend that recognizes how much you do to help our pets. Your name may never show up in the newsletter, but you are recog- nized here at the Shelter as a friend and you are always remembered. Annual Halloween Pet Parade and Bake Sale Marinette Farm & Garden plans on holding their annual Halloween Pet Parade on October 17th.
