Trustee Time: Aerie 4045 Members: I would like to first wish everybody a prosperous and Happy New year; Think Positive Test Negative. For those who may not know me, I'm a 4 year Past Trustee of Aerie 4045. I would also like to grant strength and wisdom to our newly elected President and members Congress and let them to be able to make those difficult decisions that are in the best Trustees: Lissa, Sam, Frank, Lydia, Wayne interest the United States of America. The Worthy President approached me a couple of weeks ago and asks me if I would consider filling the vacant position in the Board of Trustees. After little consideration, I agreed to accept his offer; I will do my best to proudly serve as a member of the Board of Trustees. Presently the Board of Trustees is short 1 member, if you are interested in filling this vacancy until the end of term on May 31, 2021. Please contact the Worthy President, myself, or any Officer of the Aerie. The Trustees face many new challenges on a daily basis. It is our ultimate goal to meet these challenges to provide you with better entertainment, fellowship, and quality service that a paying member is ultimately entitled to. We do have karaoke available on certain nights; need to check the events calendar. You are encouraged to participate in our karaoke and enjoy good fellowship. The Board of Trustee members are deliberating on the idea of bringing back the sale of hot food items. There will be a survey available for you to fill out with your ideas and concerns about serving food, we would appreciate your concerns and input. A lot of our challenges will require general members like you to volunteer a few hours of your time. You have unique skills that can be used around our Aerie completing maintenance task or running and or assisting with different committees. Our Friday night Bingo program is doing very well and we would like to see you on Friday night participating in our Bingo program, if you do not play you cannot win. Speaking of Bingo; we're also looking for an administrator to assist on Friday night and we are also looking for additional Bingo Callers. If you are interested in either of these positions, contact any Trustee. The Queen of Heart tickets are available behind the bar at anytime during the week, the drawing is conducted each Saturday night at 8:00, followed by entertainment in the buffet room. Brothers and Sisters; one of the things that disturbs me most is the excessive and continued use of profanity in the social room; without exception; most violations are from the use of the (F Bomb). Several members have already approached me and ask if there is anything the Board of Trustees can do to reduce the use of profanity around in the social room. The Social Room Attendants have been instructed to ask violators to reframe from the use of profanity while in the social room; it is a violation of our House Rules and punishable. If you persist you will be asked to leave. I will buy a drink for the first person to email me (preston55@cox.net) the correct answer to the following question: Subject trivia: (Sorry, Aerie Officers do not qualify). When a member violates House Rules, the member may be subject to be disciplined by suspension. What is the max length of time the Trustees are in -powered to suspend a member? Chairman of the Board of Trustees, Frank Burns 3

State President From the State Worthy President & Auxiliary Madam President We have successfully finished our first month of the new year and it was a busy one at that Julie and I started out visiting the south east coast of Florida with District 7 Snow Ball event and what an event it was. Jupiter, congratulations on your new Aerie and it looked amazing. Great job all. While we were here, we had the opportunity to stop in and visit with the Fort Pierce and Martin County Aeries. Thank you both for the warm welcome we received. The following weekend, we had split duties with anniversaries at both Ormond Beach 3800 and Daytona Beach Shores 4469. We had the opportunity to stop in at both Aeries and spend some time with them. Thank you both for your gracious donation to my State Charity, John Hopkins All Children's Hospital. Following up the next weekend, we attended the Mid-Winter Conference in Crystal River. What can I say? Great job done by all, and the Wacky Golf Tourney was great. Julie and I paired up with Grand Trustee Chuck Weber and his wife Larae and to say the least, played as best as we could considering the challenges (lol). While we were there, Crystal River Aerie invited us all over for dinner and entertainment and as they say, “Kissimmee may be my home Aerie, Crystal River Aerie is my family and home”. Thank you for your gracious donation. I want to thank all of you who presented us with checks at Mid-Winter, I am totally speechless as to what we collected. Thank you all and a very special shout out to Spring Hill, I am humbly at your service. These wonderful donations help meet my commitment to this wonderful charity and we are well on our way and almost there. I thank you all for without your support this year, this goal never would have been possible. Finally, we closed out the month at the Orange Park Aerie in Middleburg. Thank you all for the hospitality and great job you did. It appears that as we head into February, it looks as though it will also be another busy month on the Eagle Trail. I want to apologize in advance if I miss some very important events as I will be on the road for the Grand Aerie also this month and may have to miss an event or two. Remember we have the State Dart Tournament on the 27 of the month in Ocala, please come out and support this th event. I will also be getting with the Florida State Eagle Riders and will join John Daff on the 21 as we st ride from the Cabbage Patch to the Port Orange Aerie, a first for a Florida State President and I am looking forward to it. On a more somber note, please be careful out there my brothers and sisters as this virus is still around and a threat. We lost another member this month from this dreaded virus, my Pisano, Joe Magri. Joe I will sorely miss you and will always have wonderful memories of you, especially, my first Grand Aerie Convention where you and Jim Moore took me out hospitality room hoping until the wee hours in the morning. Repose in pace' mi Fratelli. Connie, on behalf of the Executive Board of the Florida State Aerie, and the membership of the State of Florida, please accepted our most sincere condolences. Please everyone, take every precaution to protect yourself and others. Until we meet again, remember, “it is all about you, the membership”. Fraternally, Steve 6
State Madam President I t seems as though we are all waiting for this new year to be different than last. Well, that won't happen on its own. We need to help it along. How you ask? By keeping our sights on better times ahead. We must not get stuck in a rut. Start with positive attitudes in your Aeries and Auxiliaries. Put on your best smiles and meet the challenges head on. We can do this. As you know we lost another great Brother this past week. Joe, my Father of the year he was very close to all of us. He was always smiling and full of fun. Our prayers go out to Connie and his family. He will be greatly missed. We have a lot of events coming up The Eagle Riders will be doing their run this month. Watch for them coming to an Aerie near you. We only have 4 months left to raise monies for all our charities this year. Get out there and do what Eagles do best. Betty State Auxiliary Madam President Betty Greer 7
How it began… On February 6, 1898, six of Seattle's most prominent theater owners gathered to discuss how to handle an ongoing musicians' strike. John Cort, brothers John W. and Thomas J. Considine, H.L. Leavitt, Mose Goldsmith and Arthur G. Williams headed down to the Moran Brothers' shipyard on South Charles Street to make a plan. According to most popular accounts, after deciding to work together to settle the strike by using piano players to replace the musicians, the men began to discuss life. At that moment, the Order of Good Things was born. As their numbers grew, the Order chose the Bald Eagle as their official emblem and changed the name of the organization to "The Fraternal Order of Eagles, with a goal to "make human life more desirable by lessening its ills and promoting peace, prosperity, gladness and hope." Touring theater troupes are credited with much of the Eagles' early growth. Most members were actors, stagehands and playwrights who carried the Eagles story from town to town as they traversed the United States and Canada. The group's early motto, "Skin'em," became the secret password to identify members while the official motto was changed to "Liberty, Truth, Justice and Equality." Within 10 years of its inception, the organization boasted more than 1,800 Aeries scattered throughout the United States, Canada and Mexico with a membership exceeding 350,000. Members received free medical attention for themselves and their families, weekly payments in case of sickness and a funeral benefit - all valuable services before the widespread availability of medical, disability and life insurance. The organization quickly became a leader in influencing national politics, pushing to create Mother's Day and eventually Social Security, Medicare and more. The Eagles' growing membership, comprised of many prominent local figures, held a position of great influence in communities everywhere.
