From the Desk of Msgr. Steve “What is this? A new teaching with authority.” One of my favorite actors growing up was Kermit the Frog. His movies, TV show and songs were top notch. One song I always enjoyed was “It is not easy being green”. The song is quite the catchy tune. It begins with the common ordinariness of green. The color blends in so much and becomes ordinary. But then the song reminds us green is the color of spring, the color of mountains and ob- viously tall trees. Green is far from ordinary, but it is the color for ordinary time and ordinary time is far from ordinary and far from being so easy. To live the call of the gospel is to live it every day and that is not always easy. But green is the color of hope and we hope in the guidance and saving power of Christ. Why? today’s gospel gives us the answer. Jesus once again shows the depth of his power. He confronts evil and evil fears him. Evil realizes it cannot win against the Son of God, and Jesus shows his authority over it. The important fact is that the bystanders recognize this authori- ty. With this recognition we can place our trust in the teachings of Christ and the way he has shown us to live. Living the life of a Christian however is not always going to be easy. Ordinary time reminds however we are children of hope. The authority of Jesus will prevail. It won’t always be easy to stand up for what is right in the eyes of God, but it is worth every effort in bearing wit- ness to Jesus’ saving authority. God’s Blessings, Msgr. AT ALL THE MASSES THE WEEKEND OF FEBRUARY 6-7, 2021, WE WILL BE ASKING THAT ONE FAMILY MEMBER BRING YOUR STEWARDSHIP COMMITMENT CARD FORWARD TO THE ALTAR STEPS PRIOR TO THE COLLECTION. This will show your commitment to your parish, to the work of the Church and to the spirit of stewardship that Christ called us to. It will also symbolize your commitment to the exciting future of St. Patrick’s Parish. It will show that you truly are a disciple of Christ. It will show you truly appreciate all of God’s blessings to you and want to make a difference.

A Note from St. Pat’s School PTO: Dear St Patrick’s Parish Members, We hope the start of this new year has treat- ed you well! We are all excited and praying that 2021 will be a year of continued growth, learning, health, and an eventual return to normalcy. On that note, we do feel it is necessary to ad- dress the challenge that 2020 was to us as a school PTO. We all experienced canceled plans with family and friends last year and the PTO has felt the same frustrations as you. We have had to put all our major fundraisers on hold. We look forward to putting on these events that bring us closer as a school and parish community, offer fun for families, and raise money to contribute to school improve- ments. On the infographic included, you can see all the amazing things the PTO has been able to bring to St Patrick’s. In a typical year, our combined fundraisers bring in approximately $10,000! Most recently, this has allowed us to add new playground equipment, a new gym sound system, media center, Chrome books, and upgrade the phone system. Our next goal is to create a S.T.E.M. lab for the building! We need your help to achieve our goal this year. In lieu of dollars you would typically spend on registration fees for multiple events, raffle basket tickets, bake-sale items, restau- rant nights, etc. we are asking that you prayerfully consider a donation to the PTO. Any amount will be greatly appreciated and put to good use! Checks may be made payable to St Patrick’s PTO. Donations can be put in the envelopes attached to this week’s bulletin and brought back to church. Donations may also be made on the St Patrick’s website (https:// stpatsonalaska.weshareonline.org/ ). Thank you for your support of St Patrick’s school every year! Thank you for helping us make this unprecedented year a success for the PTO. We absolutely look forward to get- ting back to our “regular programming” next school year! Sincerely, St Patrick’s PTO
