From Penny’s Pen

      Dear Friend,

Healing broken lives is like baking my mom’s famous Thanksgiving cake (a wonderful combination of apples,
spices, nuts and raisins) from a very complicated recipe. You need exactly the right ingredients. You must mix
them in a very specific order. Then, you have to allow time for them to bake at the proper temperature.
Miss a step or omit a vital ingredient and you’re risking disaster. Here at the City Rescue Mission, we’re
not just healing lives: we’re healing minds and bodies destroyed by alcohol, addiction and neglect. We’re
restoring souls wounded by abuse and abandonment. The ingredients are not complicated: food, shelter,
time, encouragement, counseling, care and a huge helping of God’s love; But there are no short cuts, no
substitutions. This Thanksgiving season, many broken bodies and souls will come here to the Mission.
Whether you volunteer your time, take part in a special event, donate turkeys or send a gift, you play a vital
role in making them whole again. Let the healing begin!

      Serving with you,

                      Nichols Family Thanksgiving Cake

Don’t Forget to Remember
A study conducted in the UK found the average adult forgets three key things each day, like:
    • Charging a mobile device
    • What you meant to buy at the store
    • Where you left your keys
    • Where you parked your car

While we’re all guilty of this, there’s a list of things you would never think of forgetting. For instance, a good
parent would never omit teaching their child to look before crossing the street. But every day baby boomer
parents neglect to share equally vital information with their loved ones — by not communicating details only
    they know.

Individuals who prepare for unanticipated life events exercise a unique form of love for their family. One of the
best ways to do this is with an up-to-date Estate Plan. Another is by sharing:
    • Passwords for their accounts
    • Investments and insurance policies
    • Charities they support
    • Their values

Remembering to care for your loved ones during and after your life is a beautiful gift. So is remembering a min-
istry like City Rescue Mission in your Will.
