IN OUR PARISH COMMUNITY Dear Parishioners of La Purisima, The printing of the bulletin requires that I write to you in 2019 for a bulletin to be published in 2020! So, Happy New Year and Happy Epiphany! Today’s Feast of the Epiphany which commemo- rates the visit of the three Wisemen from the East reminds us that Jesus came as a light for ALL the nations and not only for the people of Israel. The mission of Jesus is to save the world and all its people and we are part of that effort. Jesus continues to invite people to come to know and love him and we can help that process. Every year across the United States about 100,000 adults are baptized or received into the Catholic Church at Easter. Invite your friends to consider joining our community of faith (don’t nag them or guilt them into it). They can say “no’” or “yes;” that is up to them. You will be surprised to see people just waiting for a per- sonal invitation. Come with them to an RCIA meeting but check with the director first. (Deacons Tim for English speaking and Deacon Miguel for Spanish speaking.) Welcome back inactive Catholics as well. Listen to their concerns and issues with patience and try to ease their return. When they are ready, introduce them to a priest. We know what a difference a relationship with Jesus can make in our lives why not share it? We are collecting toiletries / groom-
ing supplies for the homeless. We
send them to Christ Cathedral Out-
reach Program every quarter. They
are badly in need of shampoos, con-
ditioners, lotions, toothbrush, tooth-
paste. Our next collection will be
on January 23, 2020. Please bring
supplies to LP Parish office before
this date.
This is one project of the LP Filipi-
no Ministry (Kababayan). We
bagged food such as sandwiches,
fried chicken, salad, chips, drinks ,
fruit, and other food (depending on
donations received) and with the
help of Chuck Grennan of the LP
Knights of Columbus chapter, they
are delivered to Christ Cathedral.

Students Celebrate the Child Mary Celebra on
The celebra on of this 400 year old tradi on every 21st of November
directs our a en on to Mary, the Mother of God. In thanksgiving for a
frui ul beginning of the first school for girls in France in 1610, Saint Jeanne
wished to consecrate the pupils to Mary. She encouraged them to make
their own personal consecra on in homage of
their heavenly Mother, promising to imitate
her in the state to which God would call them.
Saint Jeanne was deeply aware that God calls
each person to live their life fully in a
par cular voca on and thus be faithful
instruments in crea ng God's kingdom among
us all. By this celebra on she emphasized that
Mary is our model and companion in following
the teachings of her Son, Jesus. The
celebra on of this feast has a solidarity
component in that the children are asked to
express their care for others in need through
various ac vi es. These vary from one country
to another, responding to the par cular needs in each context or to
situa ons on a worldwide level. Company of Mary devo onal prac ces and
celebra ons are marked with an awareness and a reaching out to others
characteris c of Company of Mary spirituality.
At La Purisima, in solidarity with our sister schools, we celebrate the Presenta on of the Child Mary by
