Our Lady of Guadalupe Parish Fremont, CA April 11, 2021 The connection between sin and mercy helps explain why Jesus had to suffer so much in order to save us. If he had not suffered as much or more than we suffer, we would not be able to trust him and follow his example. But since he suffered so much, and still continue to love and forgive, even the hardest of hearts can find hope in Christ. Years ago, a pastor wrote about an experience where he learned this truth in a powerful way. He called on an older man who was dying. The man old and frail and was hanging onto his life with all his might, but something tormented him so much. When he was a little boy, he had been horribly beaten, almost to the point of death, by a man who was supposed to be taking care of him. And he had nurtured an intense hatred for that man for the rest of his life. He confessed to the priest that because of his bitterness, for all those years he had not been able to pray - not even once. He also admitted that for all those years he could not bring himself to go near a Church. An incredible case of anger had been festering in that man's soul down through the years. The priest continued to visit with him, talking to him about a man named Je- sus who also had been beaten to the point of death, but who, instead of ex- pressing hatred for those who beat him, forgave them. And three of four vis- its later, when the priest walked into the old man's room, before he could even say “Good morning,” the man said, “I did it last night. Last night I for- gave him, and for the first time, I prayed.” By the next morning, the old man had died. God's mercy is powerful, and it needs to be, because our sins are real. MESSAGE FROM DEACON LARRY ASEO:
Our Lady of Guadalupe Parish Community,
I want to take the time to offer my humble gratitude to Father Joy for allowing me to use my gifts to
serve our parish community during this Lenten journey and to Jean, Yvonne, Theresa, Alvin, and
Nancy others for their support to make this happen. I also want to thank those who attended the re-
flections in person or on zoom because I receive as much, if not more, than I have given because it
reinforces my call to follow our Lord and help lead His people. I received feedback from those at-
tending the reflections about starting a program to help us continue our faith formation with the Lord.
Our faith and discernment with Him is always changing and needs to be fed and nourished outside of
the current faith formation programs which are designed for receiving the sacraments but what can we
do after these sacred events in our life. This is an idea that I have always wanted to aspire to, so I am
offering my services towards this ministry and I am looking for feedback and suggestions to help get

tanto para salvarnos. Si no hubiera sufrido tanto como sufrió o más de lo que nosotros
sufrimos, no podríamos confiar en él y seguir su ejemplo. Pero, puesto que sufrió tanto,
y continúa amándonos y perdonándonos, incluso los corazones más duros pueden en-
contrar esperanza en Cristo. Hace años, un Pastor escribió sobre una experiencia que él
aprendió esta verdad de una manera muy poderosa. Fue llamado por un hombre mayor
que se estaba muriendo. El hombre viejo y frágil y estaba aferrándose a la vida con to-
das sus fuerzas, pero había algo que lo atormentaba mucho. Cuando era niño, había si-
do horriblemente golpeado, casi al punto de la muerte, por un hombre que se suponía
debía haberlo cuidado. Y había alimentado un intenso odio por ese hombre por el resto
de su vida.
Le confesó al Sacerdote, que por la amargura de todos esos años no le había sido posi-
ble rezar - ni siquiera una sola vez. Admitió también que por todo ese tiempo no pudo
acercarse a la Iglesia. Un caso increíble de ira se había enconado en su alma durante to-
dos esos años.
El Sacerdote continuó visitándolo, hablándole de un hombre llamado Jesús quien tam-
bién había sido golpeado hasta la muerte, pero que en lugar de expresar odio por aque-
llos que lo golpearon, los perdonó. Y tres o cuatro visitas después, cuando el Sacerdote
entró al cuarto del hombre viejo, antes de que pudiera decir “Buenos días,” el hombre
dijo, “Lo hice anoche. Anoche lo perdoné, y por primera vez, yo recé.” Para la mañana
siguiente, el anciano había muerto. La misericordia de Dios es poderosa, y necesita ser-
lo, porque nuestros pecados son reales.
El día de hoy es el Domingo de la Divina Misericordia. Reconciliación con Dios y Recon-
ciliación con los demás son dos lados de la misma moneda.

Ha sido más de un año que hemos estado viviendo en tiempo de pandemia. Cada familia ha
experimentado algún tipo de problema. Como comunidad católica, necesitamos orar uno por el
otro y presentar a Dios nuestros problemas. Hay una fuerza y paz que viene cuando ofrecemos
nuestras oraciones e intenciones a nuestro Señor.
Se va a colocar una Caja para Oraciones e Intenciones enfrente del Altar en todas las Misas.
Los invitamos a que depositen sus oraciones o intenciones en la caja antes de que comience la
Misa. Durante la Misa, el Celebrante va a ofrecer y a orar por estas intenciones.
También pueden visitar el sitio de Internet de la Parroquia www.olog.church para enviar sus
intenciones y se van a depositar en la Caja de Oraciones e Intenciones. Tengan la seguridad
que todas sus intenciones se mantendrán confidenciales, a menos que ustedes nos indiquen que
