If you are interested in the following programs as the weather gets warmer please contact kdavis@middletownnj.org. Time and dates to be determined. Pickle Ball: Similar to tennis, but played on a badminton-sized court: 20’ x 44.’ The ball is served diagonally (starting with the right-hand service- square), and points can only be scored by the side that serves. Players on each side must let the ball bounce once before volleys are allowed, and there is a seven-foot no-volley zone on each side of the net, to prevent “spiking.” The server continues to serve, alternating service courts, until he or she faults. The first side scoring eleven points and leading by at least two points wins. Pickle-ball can be played with singles or doubles. Bocce Ball: The senior center has a clay cour t for playing this classic game. Walking Group: Small walking group to explore the beautiful outdoor Croydon Hall Park. If there’s interest we can expand to other local Middletown Parks for fresh air and exercise. Garden Cub: The senior center has a r aised bed gar den area and standing patio boxes. If you would like to volunteer to get your hands dirty and spend time outdoors, we would love your help! Media Group: Once a month let’s get together and discuss a featured film, television series, great book, podcast or anything that you may have been binge watching or enjoying and would love to share with friends!

Letter from the Senior Center Supervisor Hello Members: Happy spring! It is hard to believe that we have been closed for a year for in-person activities. I have repeatedly heard how much you have missed being here at the center and being able to get together on a daily basis with friends. It is unfortunate that sometimes it takes something like this to show us how fortunate we are, or how important it is to be thankful for things large and small like our center. The Senior Center serves an important function in our community because it is not only an outlet for those who have retired but provides services, a sense of purpose and friendships to those who have made it part of their daily routine. Please join me on WebEx or by phone, Monday, April 19 at 2:00pm to discuss your thoughts on what reopening should look like. This is your Senior Center and your input is invaluable. The details on how to join WebEx are located on page 3 of the newsletter. We have had many new members join even while being closed and are amazed as members new and old show their resiliency by joining us online. What a great example that you are never to old to learn something new! This time has also shown us that having access to technology can really open your world. We are hosting a “Tech Talk” with students from Middletown High School South on Monday, April 26 at 2:15pm. If there is particular topic that you would like to learn about or a question that you have, please email kdavis@midddletownnj.org and it will be discussed that day. We are hoping that as in-person activities resume here, that the MHSS Tech Tutors will be able to come here and work one on one with members. On a happy note, the township has been working diligently to help seniors get their vaccination through a partnership with VNACJ and to date they have been able to get many seniors vaccinated and mobilize units through the VNACJ to some of senior housing buildings in Middletown. That hard work continues. Monmouth County Transportation “SCAT” is available for those who have a vaccination appointment in Monmouth County and do not drive. The phone numbers and details are on page 7. It is our hope that the senior center will reopen with the warmer weather for outdoor events such as exercise classes or art. The center will have a different schedule and guidelines then what you may have been used to in the past, but this past year has shown we are resilient and can adapt to change even when we may not want to. Your patience and suggestions are always appreciated. Please make sure that we have your email address, so that you are up to date with the most current information. Croydon Hall is a public park and a beautiful spot to gather and play cards, meet with your friends, or take a walk,. The playground has equipment that is adaptive for all ages. We hope to see you outside as the weather gets warmer! Warm regards, Kourtney Davis & Middletown Senior Center Staff
