What does being an ambassador mean? • Student ambassadors are role models! for BU and beyond… • Make a difference to the community around you, at BU and in the local area – schools, academies and colleges • Share your experiences, relate to our audience and keep up to date with changes in the HE sector. • Enhance your CV and broaden your skills with Student Ambassador activities.

Outreach Working with students 9-19 years Raising aspirations of students, especially amongst groups who may not typically progress to HE Activities in primary and secondary schools, FE colleges and community settings Subject-focussed workshops and activities including Science, Technology, Engineering & Maths Higher Education Student Mentoring Summer Breaks and so much more
UK Student Recruitment & Outreach - What do we do? Outreach Recruitment Working with students 9-19 years Promoting Raising BU to 14-19 aspirations ofyear old audience students, especially amongst groups who may not typically Blogs & Vlogs progress to HE Recruitment events in schools across the UK – Activities in Primary Schools HE and Careers fairs Workshops and focused activities around Working Science, at open days Technology, – a variety of& Engineering roles Maths including campus tours Mentoring SubjectBreaks Summer and specialist so much more workshops
Rates of pay Student Ambassador £8.50 per hour (basic pay of £7.50 per hour plus holiday pay of £1per hour) Student Leader £10.43 per hour (basic pay of £9.20 per hour plus a sum for holiday pay of £1.23 per hour) Global Talent Programme

Promoting BU via rich content Marketing Content Producer – what’s involved? Casual All year • Write blogs or film vlogs about your student experience • Excellent written and verbal communication skills • Enthusiasm, and understanding of how to engage with audience • Creativity If successful: • Contribute ideas and suggestions for content You will be required to attend a training session on Wednesday 25 October, 2-4pm.

Outreach Casual What’s involved? • Campus visits All year - Discuss your experiences of university Positions: - Chat to small groups of pupils mainly years 8 & 9 ~30 - Campus tours DBS (Enhanced) • Supporting events - On-campus, Eg: festival visits, special events, tasters - Off-campus, Eg: Talks and workshops in schools, careers fairs (including for SUN) • Travel in Dorset & neighbouring areas Selection & Training Dates: Wednesday 1 November – ambassador selection and training Tuesday 7 or Thursday 9 November – safeguarding training
Casual Primary Projects All year What’s involved? Positions: ~ 45 • Introducing young people to the idea of DBS (Enhanced) Higher Education (HE) and celebrating the ‘joy’ of learning • Working in small groups with pupils aged 8-11 • Raising aspirations, building confidence & self esteem, whilst removing barriers • Local school visits & on campus activities • Subject specific sessions Primary Training dates: “This was a fantastic opportunity for the children which Wed 15 November 1pm-4pm I believe will have a really positive impact on their Fri 17 November 10am -1pm Fri 24 November 12pm-3pm aspirations” Teacher, Kings Park Primary School
Promoting STEM to all audiences Casual STEM - Science, Technology, Engineering & Maths All year “Being a STEM ambassador is the best job you will get as a university student. Period.” Positions: What’s involved? ~20 • Delivering and facilitating hands on & DBS (Enhanced) engaging activities for young people • In-school & on-campus What you’ll learn? • Presenting, facilitation & communication skills • Confidence & team work • Expert Lego® building skills! Training dates: Weekend training on Friday 3 - Sunday 5 November 2017
10 session Mentoring commitment Nov - March ‘It gives you the opportunity to talk to people about what you Positions: Congrats! Min. 10 session Learning Ambassadors commitment Jan-July 2018 Positions: Helping with homework, exam revision and 30 subject learning DBS (Enhanced) • 2 projects– Learning Ambassador Scheme in schools and Homework Club in Winton • Delivered at the same day & time each week • Year 7- Year 12 in local secondary schools • January – July 2018 • Supporting learning in the classroom, homework and after-school clubs • Confidence in Maths and/or English in Selection & Training Dates: Wednesday 1 November – ambassador selection and training particular Tuesday 7 or Thursday 9 November – safeguarding training • All gender role models wanted! Additional training for these roles before or after Xmas break
