BALLENAS BULLETIN #1 SEPTEMBER 3, 2021 School Website: http://www.sd69.bc.ca/school/BSS MESSAGE FROM THE PRINCIPAL: To our Ballenas Community, Welcome back! We are looking forward to seeing you again, or meeting you for the first time if you are joining us here at Ballenas. Here is some important start-up information for next week: First Day of Grade 8 - Tuesday September 7th, 2021 (8:40 - 12:05): We are very excited to welcome our incoming group of Grade 8 students. Our Grade 8 team has planned a week of orientation activities to help you start your year off feeling comfortable with your transition to Ballenas. When you arrive on Tuesday morning, there will be lots of staff on hand out front to help you find your specific meeting place. A BBQ lunch will be provided for all Grade 8s. You do not need to bring any supplies or materials with you on that first day. New to Ballenas Student Orientation - Tuesday September 7th, 2021: New to Ballenas, and in Grades 9 - 12? Please join us for a school tour Tuesday September 7th at 10:45 AM. Please come to the front entrance and meet school counsellors and members of the admin team. We will give you a tour of the building, answer any questions you may have, and ensure you know where you’ll be starting on Wednesday. A BBQ hotdog lunch will be provided out front at the end of the tour. First Day Grades 9 - 12 - Wednesday September 8th, 2021: It is the start of a new year; let’s make it great! Grade 9 students will have re-orientation activities similar to our Grade 8s to begin their year. Lists with meeting places will be posted at the front of the school on Wednesday morning. During this time, you’ll get to know new classmates, teachers, and gain some additional understanding about Ballenas that you may not have experienced last year. A BBQ lunch will be available for Grade 9 students on Wednesday. Grades 10 - 12 will begin in their CLC (Career-Life Connections) classes. CLC class lists will be posted in the front foyer, outside of the library, and down the grand hallway so that you will know where to go that first day. New timetables will be provided in your CLC classes. Photo Day - Thursday September 9th, 2021: Photo day is upon us quickly this year! Lifetouch will be set up on Thursday, September 9th. Lifetouch operates a proof program with online ordering, so no need to send money or forms that day. Ordering is done online once you’ve seen the photo proof. Please see our website for more information. Health and Safety Information: We continue to refine our site-specific Health and Safety Protocols and Plan. All staff, students, and visitors to Ballenas are required to wear masks in all indoor areas; please ensure you are coming to school with a mask. Hand hygiene, as always, will continue to be important as will completing personal daily health checks and staying home if you are feeling unwell. More information will be communicated to students during our welcoming assemblies in the first week of school, and revisited often throughout the year, especially if/when protocols change. Website/Information: As always, our school website remains the best source of information, and is updated regularly. https://www.sd69.bc.ca/school/BSS/Pages/default.aspx#/= Please check it often.
