12th March 2021 Dear Parents and Carers, What a joy it has been for us to have the school once again filled with children! I hope that your week has also been a joyful one as the pressure of remote learning has been lifted from you. The children are so resilient: adapting very quickly to the routines of being back at school. We are so proud of them! Virtual school trips were enjoyed by children as part of our 'Wonderlust Wednesday' fun this week. Next Wednesday, we are looking forward to linking with people across the world, including Nazareth and Pardubice, as part of our 'Around the World Wonderlust Wednesday.' Don't forget, children are welcome to enjoy a day of nonuniform each Wednesday until Easter. In addition to maintaining our Wonderlust Wednesdays, which were such a hit for many during school closures, we have also continued to find opportunities to join together with Corpusty Pri- mary School (where I am also head of school) through a shared assembly each week. Being a small village school has so many benefits, but broadening children's horizons is very much part of what we value as well. Thank you for cooperating with us when dropping off and collecting your child by keeping dis- tanced from each other, keeping your child with you and leaving the school site promptly. I am certain that the children are ready for the weekend having had a tiring week of readjusting to routines of being back at school! Have a very blessed one. Kindest regards Mrs J Lound (Head of School) If we’ve learnt one thing in the last 12 19th months, it’s that life is unpredictable. One thing we can always rely on though is the power of laughter. We’re not able to do the Red Noses this year, so please don’t bring any into school, but we would love you all to come in to school that day wearing as much red as you can (even red hair)! We’d also love to see your inner comedian! Can you make your teacher and classmates laugh? Bring in your fa- vourite Joke and you can raise a laugh as we raise money! We aim to have Parent Pay up and running with ParentMail by Red Nose Day so you can donate what you like di- rectly via the app!
"Did you know that turning on subtitles while children are watching TV can greatly improve their reading skills. A quick, simple, free way to make TV time, reading time. #turnonthesubtitles". Watch Ste- phen Fry explain this in the YouTube clip below https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I-zISnJ-oao If you haven’t already done so, please sign up to the ParentMail App. It’s very parent friendly and means all the information you need to know is literally ‘at hand’! Currently payments for school lunches and bookings/ payments for Early Birds are already being accessed by our parents, but in future all sports clubs, drama clubs and school trips will be dealt with through ParentMail.
Stars Class Comet Class took a trip to the city of Paris, which went to the links in with our vehicle work on France. We enjoyed Zoo a virtual visit to all the main attractions including the Eiffel Tower, the Arc de Triomphe, the Louvre Muse- um, Notre Dame Cathedral and Disneyland Paris. In the afternoon, we made our own models of the Eiffel Tower out of art-straws. We spoke in French and looked at the food they en- joy in France and decided that the Patisserie would be well worth a visit! In Galaxy and Galaxy Juniors we took a 'virtual' trip to the Natural History Museum. We en- joyed 'walking' all around the museum using the google earth tour feature, admiring the incredible displays and amazing ar- chitecture. We had the opportunity to focus and research our favourite areas before we used magnifying glasses to complete detailed drawings of fossils, speci- mens and a variety of rocks and crystals. A highlight was meeting 'Hermione' the tortoise, a real live specimen! It was a great day of learning, and many of us gave our families a 'tour' of the museum via the website that evening!
Galaxy Juniors Parent Governor Position. As I am sure you are aware, there is a board of governors overseeing the school, but what are we there for? The governing board provides strategic leadership and accountability in school and we have three key functions: Overseeing the financial performance of the school and making sure its money is well spent. Holding the head teacher to account for the educational performance of the school and its pupils. Ensuring clarity of vision, ethos and strategic direction. I might add to that, especially in the current environment, we must keep staff and head teacher wellbeing at the forefront of our minds. When I first joined the governors, it was a confusing world of acronyms, monitoring and targets about which I had very little knowledge. A few years on, it’s a great way to give something back to the school, and offers a fascinating insight into how the school is run. We currently have a position available for a parent governor on the board. So why should you apply? Most of all, being a school governor is a challenging but hugely rewarding role. It will give you the chance to make a real difference to young people, give something back to your local community and use and develop your skills in a board-level environment. You will also be joining the largest volunteer force in the country: there are over a quarter of a million volunteers governing state funded schools in England. If you might be interested, or would like to know more, please do get in touch via the school office either by letter or email (office@foulshamprimary.org.uk). Will Stevenson Chair of Governors.
