A bit of background Redcliffe State High School is one of the oldest and proudest schools on the Peninsula. The school opened for business in 1958 and set as the motto of the school ‘Faire Sans Dire’. In translation this means Deeds Without Words. At Redcliffe we believe in the importance of our actions. To this end, Redcliffe is committed to providing quality education in a manner that reflects the needs of today’s students. School of Excellence in Rugby League To demonstrate our commitment to achieving ‘Above and Beyond’ outcomes for our students, Redcliffe High in 2001 commenced a Program of Excellence in Rugby League. This course has proved to be extremely popular with boys and is again being offered to students entering Year 7 in 2016. The course will cover six semesters over Years 7, 8 and 9. Students will further develop their skills while learning about many other aspects of the game. Subject results will be recorded on students’ reports. These Year 7, 8 and 9 units will lead into the Senior School Program of Excellence ‐ Rugby League in Years 10, 11 and 12. These programs are being offered to prepare players for possible careers in Rugby League and allied industries. Redcliffe Leagues Club endorses the program and their support extends to assistance in coaching clinics with senior club players and coaches as well as providing playing and training outfits. The Program Coordinator is Mr Michael Roberts, a Level 2 Coach and current coach at the Redcliffe Dolphins. Mr Garry Woodford, a Level 3 Coach and the HPE and SPORT Head of Department also coaches teams and takes Rugby League and HPE classes. Mr Laack is also an integral member of the coaching team who gives a professional attitude and work ethic to the program of excellence. Our teams will compete in the Sunshine Coast South Zone Competition as well as the Broncos Challenge. Recruitment and Development manager of Redcliffe Dolphins Steve Crawford accompanied by Steve Grant will also be involved in the development of the course content and coaching matters. Playing/training fields have already been developed and the school has a gymnasium which boys in the program use extensively. We would like to offer you the opportunity to apply for a position in the Redcliffe State High School Program of Excellence – Rugby League. The chance to further develop your Rugby League skills while studying at one of South‐east Queensland’s most innovative schools is unique. Boys in the Program of Excellence will have the opportunity to play in competitions that not available to other schools on the Redcliffe Peninsula. We participate in the Gee Shield and DeVere Cup, which are Broncos sponsored competitions. What are we looking for? The Program of Excellence in Rugby League is not merely about being a gifted and talented Rugby League player. More importantly we are looking for a range of qualities including self‐discipline, self‐motivation, willingness to be part of a team and a passion about Rugby League.
Selection Criteria The following criteria will be considered: Rugby League A passion for the great game of Rugby League School Work Must have an aptitude and willingness to strive for excellence in all areas of the curriculum. Primary School reports and teacher’s comments in relation to behaviour and application of effort in class. Personal Qualities Highly motivated to be an active team member of the Rugby League program. Enthusiastic and willing to work hard in all areas of sport and school work Self‐disciplined and prepared to exhibit excellent behaviour in all classes. Please fill out the application form and return it to the school Administration Staff located in the school office as soon as possible before the 1st September 2015 as places are strictly limited. Students moving into Yr 7 must attend the trial day on the 1st 2015 if seeking entry into the program. Please be advised that students who are successful in gaining entry into the program will be required to pay the levy of $175 before the commencement of the 2016 school year. (This cost covers a training shirt, socks, shorts, camp and any playing costs associated with the Rugby League program).
