South Wicklow Cumann na mBunscol 4) Competition Format “Hurling and Football” Teams and players • All schools are grouped into either a Boys Competition or a Mixed Gender competition (Seen on previous page) • All teams in the mixed (Boys and Girls) competition must consist of a minimum of 4 girls • All Schools in the Boys competition may have girls on their team if they wish • Schools may enter a maximum of 2 teams into the competition blitzes • Panel Members cannot change from qualifying day to finals day. • Schools decide how to slip up own teams (A+B Team or 2 evenly strong teams) Qualifier Days • All schools must attend their assigned qualifying day to progress to the finals day • Schools will be grouped through an open draw system • A maximum of 4 schools will qualify for the finals day on each of the qualifying days Finals Day • The finals day will consist of a semi-final and a final • Winners of the semi will compete in the final • A 3rd/4th place match will be played but for no cup • Games will be longer on the Final day than they were on qualifying day.

South Wicklow Cumann na mBunscol 5) Rules Hurling Numbers: 3rd/4th – 7Aside 5th/6th – 9Aside Field Size: 3rd/4th – 60x30 meters 5th / 6th – 65x30 meters Goals: Portable Goals/Poles (No poles for competition) Playing Time: 2x7 min halves unless stated otherwise Participation: No score is recorder Competition: Standard scores. Goal =3points, Over = 1point Referee: Young Whistlers for 3rd/4th Class games only, Go Games referee/Mentor for 5th/6th Class Ball Size: 3rd/4th – Quick Touch (Orange) 5th/6th – Smart Touch (Red) Playing Rules: • A player cannot solo/carry the sliotar for more than 8 steps. • He/She can handle the ball twice as normal. • Closest player to a sideline ball must take it • No 65s, but deliberately putting the ball over your own end line will result in a free from half way. • Unlimited subs. Roll on Roll off allowed • A free can only be taken by the player fouled.

South Wicklow Cumann na mBunscol 7) Go Games Referees/Young Whistlers Go Games Referees (5th/6th Class Games) • Go Games Referees must be over the age of 16 • GDA’s complete the course with TY students in local post primary schools • The qualified students will be the referees in the 5th/6th class games • Some schools attending South Wicklow CnmB game days could be asked to pick up the ref’s on route Young Whistlers (3rd/4th Class Games) • Young whistler referees are 5th/6th Class students • Qualified students may ref 3rd/4th class games ONLY • Wicklow GDA staff hold the Course for all schools interested • We advise all schools to take part in the program so that every school can bring 1 or 2 referees with them to games
South Wicklow Cumann na mBunscol 8) South CnmB AGM The first South Wicklow Annual General Meeting (AGM) was held on the 22nd or November 2017 in Aughrim county grounds. Many thanks to all who helped plan the fixtures program on the night and to those who could not attend but still gave their school’s input. It was decided that 2 competitions be held after Christmas for both 3rd/4th class teams and 5th/6th class teams. A “boys Competition” and a “Mixed Gender” competition. 8 Cups in all. 3rd/4th Class 5th/6th Class Hurling (Boys+Mixed) Hurling (Boys+Mixed) Football (Boys+Mixd) Football (Boys+Mixed) It was agreed that all blitz before Christmas are for participation purposed only. We invite all schools to send as many teams as they want to these participation blitzes and to encourage all students to take part. 2 Days will be allocated to girl’s teams in May. 1 girls football blitz day and 1 camogie blitz day.
South Wicklow Cumann na mBunscol The Fixtures meeting for the 2018/2019 season took place on Wednesday 20th June in Aughrim County Grounds. The dates indicated in the program were agreed on at the meeting. It was agreed that the outdoor Participation Blitzes would finish earlier, and there would be 1 hurling and 1 football Indoor blitz in November and December. The Camogie and Ladies football blitzes were also moved forward and an extra Ladies football date has been added. As always, the Wicklow GDA’s are always on hand for any questions or support.
