2021 NAPLAN TESTS
Academic Assessment (ALLWELL) • Academic Assessment Services (formerly Robert Allwell and Associates) established in 1974 are independent consultants specialising solely in the assessment and analysis of educational performance and progress. • Specialist services offer a diversity of testing using a suite of assessments of ability and achievement. The reporting services include meaningful use of your NAPLAN results as well as to access student performance scales. • These results enable the School to develop strategic action plans to target weaknesses to improve student outcomes. Data is used for subject selection in Year 11. • Results are aligned to NAPLAN for analysis of annual academic growth.
ALLWELL TESTS • Tests are conducted for all Year 2, 4, 6, 8 and 10 students through independent consultants from Academic Assessment Services • New students will also sit tests in Year 7 and 9 • Results enable teachers to develop strategic action plans to target weaknesses and improve outcomes
Record of School Achievement (RoSA) Grades • The RoSA is a cumulative credential, meaning it contains a student’s record of academic achievement up until the date they leave school. This could be between the end of Year 10 up until and including some results from Year 12. • The RoSA records completed Stage 5 (Year 10) and Preliminary Stage 6 (Year 11) courses and grades, HSC (Year 12) results, and where applicable participation in any uncompleted Preliminary Stage 6 courses or HSC courses. • Students who remain at school to complete their HSC will not receive a RoSA
RoSA Grades • Teachers make professional on-balance judgements to decide which grade description best matches the standards their students have achieved. • Teachers follow a process of ‘moderation’ to ensure that grades awarded are consistent with published standards. This means that the grade a student receives in one school can be compared to the same grade anywhere in NSW. • Teachers moderate their judgements by comparing work samples for their students with samples aligned to grades A to E. These grades are reported on the as the RoSA or HSC Record of Achievement on the Students Online tab on the NESA website
A –E Grading • You will receive a Grade A – E for each subject you study. • ALL Assessments (tasks & examinations) count towards your Grades. • ALL your class work and homework assists you in preparing for and completing Assessments and Examinations.
Confirmation of Entry Before signing your Confirmation of Entry each year Check • If you are enrolled in the correct courses • If you are eligible for: • Year 10: Record of School Achievement • Year 11: Stage 6 Preliminary • Year 12: Stage 6 HSC
Using Year 10 Assessments Entry to some Year 11 subjects is dependent on RoSA grades achieved in Year 10 • A minimum mark of 80 in Science is required for Physics, Chemistry and Biology in Year 11. • A minimum mark of 80 in Mathematics is required for Advanced Mathematics in Year 11. • A minimum mark of 80 in English is required for Advanced English in Year 11.
Disability Provisions • Disability provisions provide practical support for students to read examination questions and write their answers • Examples of provisions include a reader, rest breaks and extra time • Provisions granted are solely determined by how the student’s exam performance is affected • To apply for provisions, an online application to NESA is submitted, explaining which provisions the student is requesting and recent evidence • Evidence includes a student statement, medical certificates, medical reports and teacher reports
Gifted and Talented Program • Acceleration program reintroduced this year for Mathematics and Science • All students are invited to apply for ICAS tests in English, Mathematics and Science • In Year 9, this program is extended to include participation in the Australian Brain Bee Competition held at UNSW
Parental Responsibilities • It is parents and carers who have the most influence on children. When families are actively involved in their children’s education, children usually enjoy school and achieve better results. • Help to establish an effective study/revision routine at home • Ensure that family holidays are NOT taken during term time • Use the School Diary as an important form of daily communication with teachers • If you have any concerns, please feel free to contact us
