From the Desk of Father Reed C. Mungovan, S.D.S. Dear Friends in Christ, Jesus says these words today in our Gospel, “A good person out of the store of goodness in their heart produces good.” I love this thought. When we are surrounded by goodness it is easier to be good. This Monday I was able to spend an hour adoring Jesus in the Shrine at Marytown in Libertyville, Illinois. I was tempted not go to the shrine, yet something was urging me to go and spend some quiet time with God. I am so glad I went. I saw the holiness of others in the Church quietly adoring Jesus. I was able to rest in God’s presence and enter in the quiet stillness. I was surrounded by goodness. The more we surround ourselves with goodness, the more we will be able to share the goodness of God with all we meet. May God bless you abundantly, Fr. Reed Christopher Mungovan, SDS Holy Mary, Mother of Good Counsel, pray for us. Traditional Stations of the Cross in Church at 1pm in Spanish and 4pm in English begins March 10 DIRECTIONS FOR CRS RICE BOWL CRS is Catholic Relief Services Lenten Guide to help all the members of MGC Parish to put their faith and the Principles of Catholic Social Teaching into ACTION. Here are some hints on how to use the cardboard rice bowl and the Lenten Calendar (found tucked inside the cardboard rice bowl) effectively: 1. As we unfold the cardboard rice bowl and the Lenten Calendar on Ash Wednesday (March 6) place them in a prominent place and read the Lenten Prayer on the bowl and the directions on the Lenten Calendar. Plan on how much time we want to spend on the 3 pillars of Lent – 1. Prayer (remember the 1% Challenge), 2. Fasting, and 3. Giving 2. Start each week by reading the Story of Hope in the Lenten Calendar on Sunday and following through by reading the Calendar each day & following the suggestions and saying the prayer on the cardboard rice bowl. 3. On Friday we are invited to eat a simple, vegetarian meal (seafood is ok) which is part of Fasting. Recipes taken from the country featured in the Story of Hope for that week can be used but not required. 4. Download the CRS Rice Bowl app to see exclusive content from the Stories of Hope. Follow the CRS Rice Bowl on Twitter at @CRSRiceBowl to get live up dates during Lent. Don’t forget Facebook – join the CRS Rice Bowl Facebook group to learn more, and share with, faith communities across the country. 5. Remember that 25% of the money donated stays within the community and will go to our own St. Vincent de Paul Society. Ash Wednesday ~ March 6 All Parishioner are Welcome to come to Paulik Hall starting @5pm to enjoy Soup & Bread Supper What better way to start our Parish’s 40 day CRS Rice Bowl Lenten journey than by gathering together to enjoy a simple vegetarian soup w/bread (fasting). Those members of our community who like to cook and share should plan to bring a vegetarian soup, an extension cord, and soup ladle to Paulik Hall at 4:30pm. If you are not bringing soup please plan to arrive at 5pm. All are Welcome!
