He spent four years working in mixed mostly farm animal practice before returning to RVC to do farm animal pathology residency and PhD on retained fetal membranes. Dr Laven moved on to work at ADAS Bridgets Dairy Research Farm as research vet for four years before moving to Scottish Agricultural College (now SRUC) to manage veterinary surveillance laboratory. He left the UK in 2005 to move to New Zealand and Massey Farm Services and is currently Professor of Animal Health and Welfare, at Massey University. His key interests are anything to do with cows, goats and diagnostics.
