City of Dresden The Mayor’s Office International Action Weeks Against Racism 16th March to 6th April 2020
Show Courage – Raise Your Voice The “International Action Weeks Against I would like to express my great thanks to Racism” are part of a nationwide cam- everyone involved for their work and paign of action demonstrating solidarity dedication. Through our joint actions, we with the victims – and opponents – of are demonstrating our commitment to a racism. future in which all people can live their life in dignity and equality. In November 2019, I called upon the people of the city to participate in the action weeks: Our city, too, is by no Dirk Hilbert means free of intolerant attitudes and Mayor of the City of Dresden racist or discriminating thoughts and behaviour. But that is not to be accepted! On the contrary, we must stand up for peaceful coexistence in a cosmopolitan and diverse society. 2020 will be a memorable year. We will be marking the 75th anniversary of the liberation from National Socialism and the end of the Second World War. The 30th anniversary of German Unification also lies ahead later in the year. Against this back- ground, an important thematic focus is to be placed on the dimension of racist dis- crimination in transformation processes. The members of numerous associations, initiatives, educational institutions, youth organisations and networks, as well as countless committed individuals, are contributing to a diverse programme of 70 events during this year’s Action Weeks. Formats such as lectures and readings address the stereotypes and prejudices which exist in various spheres of our daily lives, whether publicly in schools or sport or in private settings. 2
