It was devastating to watch the kids so happy at training and ready for the season, to then have it cancelled on us. Our focus now is to re-engage these kids and ensure a smooth and fun season ahead, while being CovidSafe. A huge welcome to all our new and returning Panther families. We have a new committee this year, but we wanted to take the time to thank our previous committee members including Tracey Skewes, Michelle Wrigley, Suz Duncanson, Luke Harris, Shantelle Porter, and Sueann Joynson, for their hard work and dedication. Our Office Bearers are: • President – Melanie Alder. I am Canadian-born, but have come to love Aussie Rules Football. I have been the Auskick Coordinator at Casey Fields for 4 years, team manager at DMJFC for 3 years, registrar in 2018, and secretary in 2019. I have four boys at DMJFC this year in U13 (Boey), U11 (Chevy), U8 (Maxy), and Auskick (Brock). • Vice President - • Treasurer – Sammi Gonsalves. Sammi has been involved with DMJFC since Will (U15) started playing in 2015. She was team manager for 5 years and has been on the committee for 6 years, including as registrar and merchandise coordinator. Sammi also has a daughter, Shae (U10), who played U8 in 2019. • Secretary – Melynda Morley. Melynda has a daughter (Maddi) and a son, Tom (U13), who has played at DMJFC since U9. She was team manager for 2 years and has also been on the committee as merchandise coordinator. • Junior Coaching Coordinator/Football Operations – Joel Alder. Joel Is Melanie Alder’s husband. He has played all his junior years at DMJFC and played seniors at Meadows. He has coached Boey’s team from U9-U11, which made it to the Div.2 preliminary finals in 2019. This year he will be supporting all coaches while coaching Chevy (U11). • Youth Coaching Coordinator/Football Operations – Liam Moran. • Registrar – Jessica Riley-King. It’s Jess’s first year on committee. She has a son, Cohen, in U12 this year and was the team manager for 2 years. The more helpers we have, the lighter the workload, and the smoother our club runs. My motto is ‘It’s all about the kids’. With covid having such a big impact on our children last year, it’s more important than ever to support them in every way. Team sports are amazing to a child’s development. Kids learn so much through team sports and our focus is to ensure they have fun while developing their football skills. The club has had a huge amount of the growth the last few years, which is great to see, and we are seeing continued growth. This year we will be moving to Ovals 2/3. This will be our home until our new club rooms/grounds are built, which will be on the corner of Craig Road and Browns Road (behind Botanic Ridge Primary School). These new facilities are expected to be ready by mid-2022. I look forward to a great year in 2021 and seeing all the happy, active, smiling faces around the club! Melanie Alder What to expect at Devon Meadows Junior Football Club Devon Meadows Junior Football Club is part of the Frankston District Junior Football League. Training nights are on Wednesdays and Fridays varying times with the younger age groups starting at an earlier time of approximately 5pm. Preseason training commences mid-March with the top age teams starting at the end of February. The Home and Away season begins mid-April, normally the second week of school holidays. Home games are played at Casey Fields Ovals 2 and 3. We run awards nights usually every other Sunday at Devon Meadows Netball and Football Club at Glover Reserve, Devon Meadows. This is a great night to socialise, have a feed, while listening to the coaches reports on the games. Coaches also recognise players for their efforts. DMJFC also runs a few social/fundraising events throughout the season. Please stay tuned for these events. Devon Meadows Junior Football Club – Parent Handbook 2021 3
