About the opportunity Reporting to the Chief Operations Officer (COO), this new role will take overall accountability for leading and ensuring the delivery of all technology projects to meet business objectives – both strategic and operational. As R&D Manager, you are a key support to the COO and the business as a whole; ensuring Invert Robotics can provide the necessary total product solution to clients to ensure strategic, operational and commercial objectives can be achieved. About you To be successful as the R&D Manager, you will show a willingness to take a “hands-on” approach to getting the work done and take accountability for actions and areas of responsibility. As a forward thinking and dynamic leader, you take a proactive approach to resolving roadblocks to success and mitigating potential risks before they have manifested. To effectively thrive in this technical leadership role you will have extensive experience and capability in the design and development of technical products or solutions with a preference for this to be in software, electrical or mechanical products. You will also have extensive project and programme leadership and governance experience demonstrable through a disciplined and achievement focused approach and a sustained record of technical project delivery on time, on budget and to scope. RESEARCH AND DEVELOPMENT MANAGER - INVERT ROBOTICS LIMITED Position Description April 2019 Title: Research &Development Manager (R&D Manager) Reporting to: Chief Operating Officer (COO) Direct Reports: Project Manager, Technical Team Leads (Electronics, Software, Mechanical) and QA Engineer (The R&D Function) ROLE PURPOSE, FUTURE VISION AND OVERRIDING ACCOUNTABILITIES As the R&D Manager, you are a key support to the COO and the business as a whole; taking overall accountability for the delivery of all technology projects to meet business objectives – both strategic and operational. Through your effective leadership of the R&D Function, Invert Robotics will deliver on it’s Technology Road Map together with providing the necessary products, services and solutions to clients that in turn ensure strategic, operational and commercial objectives are met. Your significant strengths in operational leadership and project governance combined with your commercial capability and business savvy will support your activities driving exceptional project delivery on time, on budget and to specification – without fail. This is a business-critical role, facilitating organisation-wide success through your exceptional leadership of projects, programmes and operations. Your operational process excellence will allow you to take a continuous business improvement focus across the R&D Function and ensure changing business requirements are managed effectively to achieve objectives. As a leader within the Operations team, you will provide your direct reports - and your colleagues - with leadership and inspiration. You will lead by example, demonstrating through your behaviour’s professionalism, strong commercial and strategic decision making and an approach of self-responsibility and motivation underlined with a collaborative and company-focused style. COMPETENCIES – SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE In order to be effective in the position the R&D Manager shall have and be able to demonstrate the following skills and experience: • Extensive experience and capability in in the design and development of technical products or solutions with a preference for this to be in electrical or mechanical products; evidenced by a minimum of 15 years of “hands-on” engineering and team leadership experience in this technical context. • Extensive project leadership and governance experience demonstrable through a disciplined and achievement focused approach and a sustained record of technical project delivery on time, on budget and to scope. • Extensive experience and success leading technical, engineering teams to achievement of organisation objectives and success evidenced through testimonials and references. • Strong financial understanding with budget management experience; evidenced by delivery of projects on budget. • Holds a minimum of a bachelor’s degree in a relevant engineering or technical discipline – a post graduate qualification is preferred.
