Tiger Battalion Ozark High School JROTC P.O. Box 166, 1350 W. Bluff Dr. Ozark, MO 65721 29 May 2018 Ozark Raider Fitness Crucible 2018 Invitation: Ozark High School Junior ROTC will host a Raider fitness crucible on 15 September 2018 at Ozark High School. This competition will be a non-traditional Raider meet, consisting of the following eight events: 5K Run – Team will run together on a 5K run route. Teammates must arrive together at the turn-around point and must finish together (within 10 yards). Litter Run – Team will carry a litter (stretcher) weighted with approximately 100 pounds along a running course of approximately 3/4 mile. Agility Course – Team will race through an agility course of small obstacles, including such elements as low crawl, high crawl, slalom, horizontal ladder, vault, hurdle, incline wall, over and under, and balance beam run. Ironman – Team will perform a series of heavy-object exercises, including such things as tire flip, ammo can lift, sled drag, and water can carry. Lumberjack – Team will perform a series of exercises with a heavy log, including running, dragging, overhead pressing, bench pressing, flipping, sitting-up (with log across chest), etc. Stone Quarry – Team will unload a pallet of cinder blocks by hand, carrying each a short distance then loading onto a second pallet. Once second pallet is loaded, teams will unload blocks and transport to a third pallet a short distance away. Teams will thereafter return cinder blocks to second pallet, then original pallet. Gloves are recommended. Rucksack Relay – Two team members at a time run with a weighted rucksack (approximately 40 pounds) around a ¼ mile track. Each team member must run 2 complete laps. They may transfer the rucksack after each lap or run for two laps before transferring it. Bucket Brigade – Team members will transport water from a water tank downhill to fill a barrel uphill, using gallon pails. Team size: Teams will consist of up to five members, but only four may compete in any single event. The fifth team member serves as an alternate to give other team members a break as needed. The fifth team member may not assist or substitute in during an event without the team’s forfeiting that event. Undersized teams (i.e., fewer than four members) are eligible to compete in all events except for the 5K run. They may run the event anyway, but their time will not count. Timeline: Timeline is as follows: 7:00-7:30 – Check in (please arrive no later than 7:30) 8:00-12:00 – Competition 12:30 – Award ceremony Rotation schedule: The 5K run will be the first event for all teams. All teams will start at the same time. As teams finish the 5K, they will move out to the remaining events in whatever sequence they choose. Teams will need to move fairly rapidly from event to event in order to complete all eight events before 12:00. No more events will begin after 11:40.
Ozark Raider Fitness Crucible 2018 Awards: Awards will be given to the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place teams in every event, as well as to the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place winners overall. Awards will be medallions for each member of the team for each event and for overall. Uniform: All JROTC teams will wear ACU trousers, ACU boots, and a matching T-shirts (whether ACU tan or alternate). They may also, at their own discretion, wear their ACU blouse and/or ACU soft cap. Non- cadets competing in the civilian category may wear whatever appropriate workout attire they choose, so long as it doesn’t violate basic standards of decency or somehow provide an unfair advantage over other civilian teams. Conduct: Cursing is forbidden. Each instance of cursing will be penalized (with a time penalty) by the station director. Repeated instances of cursing are grounds for dismissal (with disqualification) from the event or even the entire competition. If you have concerns about the judging of any event, please direct your concerns to the operations center. You may raise them respectfully with the station director first, but please do not argue with the station directors. Disqualification: Teams disqualified from an event will receive the lowest score possible for that event. While this will make it unlikely that they can place overall, disqualification from an individual station does NOT disqualify them from placing over all. However, teams disqualified from an individual event may be disqualified from placing overall depending on the grounds of their disqualification. MAJ Cazier reserves judgment over whether teams disqualified from individual events retain eligibility to place overall. Similarly, teams who do not finish an event due to running out of time are not automatically disqualified from placing overall. Scoring: Scoring for each event is based on time, adjusted for penalties. The overall winner is determined by averaging the finishing place (not finish time) for each event. The team with the best overall finish place average wins. In the event of a tie, the Agility Course time will be used as the tie- breaker. In the event additional tie-breakers are required, they will be the Ironman and the Bucket Brigade, in that order.
