FULL YEAR HANDBOOK // 8 PRACTICES AND PRACTICE WEAR Full year teams will practice June 2021-May 2022. Elite teams will practice a total of 5 hours a week two, two hour team practices and one, one hour tumbling class. Prep teams will practice a total of 4 hours a week two one and a half hour practices and one, one hour tumbling class. Competitive cheerleading is a TEAM sport, and one person not at practice can cause multiple groups to not be able to participate. Placements will be held May 24th-27th with the team announcement video being released on the 28th. The teams released in the announcement video will be the “training“ teams for the duration of the summer, these may or may not be the set teams for the season based on lost or gained skills, and how well teams are working together. This allows us to more easily move around athletes to try out different teams to see where they fit best and which team would benefit most from them being apart of it. Coaches reserve the right to move athletes to different teams based on skills gained or lost, attitude, and how well they mesh with the team. Teams will be set for the season prior to choreography camp and will not change unless for injuries or other extenuating circumstances. Extra Practices may be added during competition season to ensure the team is ready to perform/compete. If we choose to call extra practice, we will notify you and your athletes as soon as possible. Please note that any extra practice would typically be called close to a competition or if there is need for emergency changes in the routine Athletes will receive practice wear and a practice wear schedule. It is the responsibility of the athlete and parents to ensure they wear the correct items on the corresponding day, as we want our athletes to look and feel like a team. In the event that an athlete misplaces a piece of their practice wear, they will be given a single warning before families are billed to their portal for a proshop item that matches the team that day. In the event that an athlete losesor damages a practice wear item, families will be billed to their iClass account to replace them.
FULL YEAR HANDBOOK // 9 ATTENDANCE POLICY Tardiness If you are not on the mat and completely ready (practice wear on, hair up, and cheer shoes on) when your team is scheduled to begin, you are considered tardy. If tardiness becomes an issue there will be a parent meeting held to discuss the issue. If you are tardy due to another excused sport/activity, clear it with your coaches immediatly. Absences We understand that many of our athletes and families enjoy traveling and spending time together and we want to ensure that you can do that. In addition however we want to ensure our teams and athletes are progressing and are able to have successful seasons, and to do that we need ALL athletes at ALL practices. Absences should be addressed AHEAD of time NOT the day of, that way coaches can plan accordingly. Please try to plan any vacations during the scheduled “break” times listed in the calendar you receive in the beginning of the season (also posted on our website). If your athlete is going to miss practice or class for any reason please email us at ndelitecheer@outlook.com to let us know in advance. Note that missing practice for things such as birthdays or “family being in town” is not advised and WILL count towards your absence total. If an athlete has to miss practice for something covid related such as being a close contact or testing positive those are excused absences. All team practices (excluding tumbling and jump classes) will be limited to the following absences. Including absences for, but not limited to, required school activities, family vacations, and illness without hospitalization: - Up to four absences between June 1st - August 31st - Up to four absences between September 1st - April 30th - Note if an athlete misses more than 45 minutes than a practice it WILL count as a half absence If an athlete misses more than the allotted absences they will be removed from their team(s) and an alternate will take their position for the remainder of the season at the discretion of the coaches. All practices one week prior to a competition are 100% mandatory. Athletes not in Attendence WILL be removed from the routine for that competition with the exception of funerals with documentation, athlete hospitilization with documentation, and letter grade activities with a signed note from their teacher and AT LEAST one-month notice. *Note that although absences from tumbling classes do not directly add onto the allowed absences they are expected and required to attend one class per week.
FULL YEAR HANDBOOK // 10 COMPETITION POLICY Travel Parents are responsible for getting their athletes to any and all comeptitions. Plan accordingly, competition season is during winter and competitions we attend are rarely if ever cancelled. All athletes are required to attend all scheduled competitions and families will be responsible for making safe travel plans to ensure the attendence of their athlete(s). Competition Conduct We hold our athletes to a high expectation while attending any and all competitions. We require that all teams and athletes stay to support the other teams in our program. This is your gym, your cheer family, and you are expected to support them, there are no excused absences from supporting your cheer family at performances and competitions. There will be NO swimming allowed the night before competing in order to avoid muscle fatigue for the success of the athlete and the team, this includes sitting in the hot tub. There will be NO cell phones during awards. Athletes MUST be in uniform for awards and will not be allowed to leave before awards. Coaches are not responsible for holing any personal items, therefore any and all items should be left with parents or guardians. Please ensure that your athlete is completely ready and on time for their team meet time as they go directly from their meet location to warm ups. Hair and make-up details will be sent out prior to their first performance/competition. NO JEWELRY is allowed at competition per USASF guidelines. Athletes will be required to remove ALL jeweltry prior to warm ups including new piercings. Competition Schedule Following the 2020-2021 season we have decided to wait until closer to competition season to select the comps will be attending for the 2021-2022 season. As most competition details are released mid-summer we hope to have a finalized competition schedule by choreography, pending information coming from various event producers. Choosing competitions later in the summer allows us much more flexibility to find better options for the gym, our athletes, and our families. **Please block off FULL days for competitions and performances. Plan on each competition or performance taking a full day from 7am- 10pm due to the fact that we do not typically recieve a finalized scheduled until the week of the event.**
FULL YEAR HANDBOOK // 11 MISC. INFORMATION Code of Conduct We will NOT tolerate bullying, gossip, cliques, or drama amongst our athletes or athletes of a different program. You must respect your teammates, coaches, and competitors. Back talk, rolling of eyes, or any other form of disrespect for coaches or teammates, is unacceptable. All consequences for inappropriate actions and all disciplinary measures are at the discretion of the coaches, including placement for the following season. Physicals We require a new sports physical each year by August for our records. USASF Account/Membership All athletes are required to be registered with USASF by August on usasf.net. It is $30 to renew your membership with USASF each year. Cell Phones Cell phones are NOT allowed at practice. Injuries In the event of an injury, the athlete must attend all practice and continue to pay tuition. If your athlete becomes injured outside of practice, notify your coach immediately. This will help us prepare and make changes to the routine prior to practice. IF the athlete has restrictions, we will need a doctor’s note with specific restrictions and alternate conditioning/rehab instructions. Once the athlete has FULLY recovered and is cleared by a doctor, he or she may or may not be choreographed back into the routine. Communication We strive to communicate in a fast, simple, and easy way so that everyone is informed and is able to easily find important information. Our main form of communication is email. There will also be a facebook group for all North Dakota Elite families as well as individual team pages. These Facebook groups will be used for answering quick questions and letting parents know any last minute changes. It is extremely important that read all details sent out in any communication from us, as all details are important. Fundraising We will be doing fundraising a little differently this season, rather than doing fundraising through the NDECP as in previous years we will be doing it through each individual team. On the packet you will fill out for tryouts you will choose whether or not you would like to fundraise for the season. If you choose yes to fundraise, you must meet a set number of hours, still to be determined, to recieve a portion of the fundraising. As of right now door to door fundraisers such as butterbraids would still be done individually due to the variance in product sold by each athlete, however every other fundraiser would be a ”group” fundraiser split up by teams.
