Article I – Name The name of the Conference is the ECAC (hereinafter referred to as the “Conference” or “ECAC” as the context may dictate). ECAC Esports is a league within the ECAC, the largest intercollegiate college athletics conference in the country. Article II – Purposes The ECAC seeks to add value to the competitive experience for hundreds of students participating in intercollegiate esports by sponsoring, conducting and promoting first-rate competitions, leagues, tournaments, championships and exhibitions. The ECAC mission is to also develop new methods of supporting and enhancing intercollegiate esports and the competitive experience for the student esports competitors. Additionally, the ECAC seeks to provide solid leadership throughout the region and nationally in esports for students, coaches, university administrators, parents, and alumni. Article III – ECAC Esports Committee The ECAC Esports Committee consist of persons at ECAC Esports member schools who are selected by the Conference. The members must be qualified by experience or title in holding a position in which they have or have had administrative responsibilities and have or have had direct knowledge of budget and personnel matters. Knowledge of esports is a necessity. Duties and Responsibilities The ECAC Esports Committee will serve as advisors for the league. The committee will help the Conference office make decisions in regard to the current state and future of ECAC Esports. Article IV – Membership Section A – Application for Membership An institution wishing to become an active ECAC Esports member shall register on the ECAC website and pay the required annual membership fee of $1,300. This grants members to compete in as many games as they want and register as many teams per game as they can support. Section B – Annual Dues Each institution shall pay annual dues before the start of the regular season to the ECAC in the amount determined. Section C – Game Readiness (No Shows and Forfeitures) As an ECAC Esports member, all institutions agree and are expected to be ready to join the game lobby at the time specified by the regular season schedule. Upon the agreement of both teams, matches can be rescheduled and communicated to ECAC officials on Discord but must be completed within the same week. Teams that are not ready to play at their official match time are subject to lateness penalties. A team will be subject to forfeiture if 20 minutes have elapsed since their official match time. 3
Matches selected for broadcast by the ECAC Network cannot be moved. - i.e. if a Fortnite match is scheduled on Tuesday night at 8 p.m. with School X vs. School Y and selected for broadcast, the match cannot be rescheduled. Section D – Non-Discriminatory Statement The ECAC Esports is welcome to everybody and shall not discriminate against people for reasons such as: race, gender, color, religion, gender expression, age, national origin, disability, marital status, sexual orientation. Article V – Member and Team Requirements Schools Association - Affiliation— all teams must be recognized by their member institution as an official esports team for their school, including either varsity or club sport programs. - Designated University ECAC Representative— every ECAC Esports member must designate a staff member to serve as an official representative from the school for esports. That individual must be a full-time staff member, or faculty member of the school. - Coach/ Team Manager or Captain— each team must designate a coach, team manager, or captain, who may be, but does not need to be, a player on the active roster. The manager will be the primary point of contact for all ECAC league officials. The manager must be identified before the start of the season, and a replacement must be immediately identified if the manager leaves the team. Article VI – Student Eligibility Section A– Student/ Women’s League Eligibility Enrollment Status— - To be eligible to participate in any ECAC competition, a student must be enrolled full time by the school. - Proof of enrollment is required if asked by the Conference. - GPA requirements are decided by the institution and not the conference. - Student must be in good academic standing with their college or university o Good standing is considered not on academic or behavioral probation with the college or university Section B – Alumni League Eligibility - Only graduated students are eligible to compete in the ECAC Esports Alumni League(s). - To be eligible for alumni leagues, a competitor must have an academic degree from the school attended and intend to play for. Section C – Termination of Eligibility - If a student were to cease to become full-time then he/she is no longer eligible to compete. - Depending on the action occurred the organization has the ability to make you ineligible. 4
Article VII – Game Title Eligibility Section A – League of Legends - Disciplinary Status—players may not have any current disciplinary suspension from Riot- affiliated competitions. Suspensions from the LCS or foreign leagues will be upheld by ECAC league officials. - Eligible LoL Account—players must have a League of Legends account in good standing and be eligible for ranked games in order to compete. This same account must be used for the duration of competition. Players may not change their Summoner name without permission during the competition. - Sportsmanship Checks—upon registration, all players will have their LoL accounts reviewed to ensure that they uphold good conduct and sportsmanship in their games during the current school year. Players who do not do so may be subject to warnings or loss of eligibility at any point during the season. Section B – Overwatch - Disciplinary Status—players may not have any current disciplinary suspension from Blizzard-affiliated competitions. Suspensions from leagues will be upheld by ECAC league officials. - Eligible Battle Net Account—players must have a Battle Net account in good standing and be eligible for ranked games in order to compete. This same account must be used for the duration of competition. Players may not change their username without permission during competition. - Sportsmanship Checks—upon registration, all players will have their Battle Net accounts reviewed to ensure that they uphold good conduct and sportsmanship in their games during the current school year. Players who do not do so may be subject to warnings or loss of eligibility at any point during the season. Section C – Hearthstone - Disciplinary Status—players may not have any current disciplinary suspension from Blizzard-affiliated competitions. Suspensions from leagues will be upheld by ECAC league officials. - Eligible Battle Net Account—players must have a Battle Net account in good standing and be eligible for ranked games in order to compete. This same account must be used for the duration of competition. Players may not change their username without permission during competition. - Sportsmanship Checks—upon registration, all players will have their Battle Net accounts reviewed to ensure that they uphold good conduct and sportsmanship in their games during the current school year. Players who do not do so may be subject to warnings or loss of eligibility at any point during the season. Section D – Fortnite - Disciplinary Status—players may not have any current disciplinary suspension from Epic- affiliated competitions. Suspension from leagues will be upheld by ECAC league officials. 5
- Eligible Epic Games Account—players must have an Epic Games account in good standing and be eligible for games in order to compete. This same account must be used for the duration of competition. Players may not change their username without permission during the competition. - Sportsmanship Checks—upon registration, all players will have their Epic Games accounts reviewed to ensure that they uphold good conduct and sportsmanship in their games during the current school year. Players who do not do so may be subject to warnings or loss of eligibility at any point during the season. Section E – Super Smash Bros. Ultimate - Disciplinary Status—players may not have any current disciplinary suspension from Nintendo-affiliated competitions. Suspensions leagues will be upheld by ECAC league officials. - Eligible Nintendo Switch Online Account—players must have a Nintendo Switch account in good standing and be eligible for online games in order to compete. This same account must be used for the duration of competition. Players may not change their account without permission during the competition. - Sportsmanship Checks—upon registration, all players will have their accounts reviewed to ensure that they uphold good conduct and sportsmanship in their games during the current school year. Players who do not do so may be subject to warnings or loss of eligibility at any point during the season. Section F – FIFA - Disciplinary Status—players may not have any current disciplinary suspension from Electronic Arts competitions. Suspensions from leagues will be upheld by ECAC league officials. - Eligible Origin Account—players must have an Origin account in good standing and be eligible for games in order to compete. This same account must be used for the duration of competition. Players may not change their username without permission during the competition. - Sportsmanship Checks—upon registration, all players will have their accounts reviewed to ensure that they uphold good conduct and sportsmanship in their games during the current school year. Players who do not do so may be subject to warnings or loss of eligibility at any point during the season. Section G – Rocket League - Disciplinary Status—players may not have any current disciplinary suspension from Psyonix competitions. Suspensions from leagues will be upheld by ECAC League officials. - Eligible Steam/Psyonix Account—players must have an Origin account in good standing and be eligible for games in order to compete. This same account must be used for the duration of competition. Players may not change their username without permission during the competition. 6
- Sportsmanship Checks—upon registration, all players will have their accounts reviewed to ensure that they uphold good conduct and sportsmanship in their games during the current school year. Players who do not do so may be subject to warnings or loss of eligibility at any point during the season. Section H – Madden - Disciplinary Status—players may not have any current disciplinary suspension from EA competitions. Suspensions from leagues will be upheld by ECAC League officials. - Eligible Origin Account—players must have an Origin account in good standing and be eligible for games in order to compete. This same account must be used for the duration of competition. Players may not change their username without permission during the competition. - Sportsmanship Checks—upon registration, all players will have their accounts reviewed to ensure that they uphold good conduct and sportsmanship in their games during the current school year. Players who do not do so may be subject to warnings or loss of eligibility at any point during the season. Article VIII – Code of Conduct The ECAC Code of Conduct is the overriding authority on all matters related to sportsmanship. Competitors are expected to know and follow the tenets put forth in the code. The following items are specific to ECAC Esports: Section A – Competition Conduct - Unfair play—the following actions will be considered unfair play and will be subject to penalties at the discretion of ECAC officials: o Collusion—collusion is defined as any agreement among two (2) or more players and/or confederates to disadvantage opposing players. Collusion includes, but is not limited to, acts such as: § Soft play, which is defines as any agreement among two (2) or more players to not damage, impede or otherwise play to reasonable standard of competition in a game. § Sending or receiving signals, electronic or others, from a confederate to/from a player. § Deliberately losing a game for compensation, or for any other reason, or attempting to induce another player to do so. - Hacking—hacking is defined as any modification by any player, team or person acting on behalf of a player or a team. - Exploiting—exploiting is defined as intentionally using any in-game bug to seek advantage. Exploiting includes, but is not limited to, acts such as: glitches in buying items, glitches in neutral minion interactions, glitches in Champion ability performance, or any other game function that is not functioning as intended. - Ringing—playing under another players account or soliciting, inducing, encouraging or directing someone else to play under another players account. - Cheating Device—the use of any kind of cheating device and/or cheat program. 7
- Intentional Disconnection—an intentional disconnection without a proper and explicitly state reason (e.g. rage quit). Section B – Profanity and Hate Speech - A team member may not use language that is obscene, foul, vulgar, insulting, threatening, abusive, libelous, slanderous, defamatory or otherwise offensive and objectionable; or promote or incite hatred or discriminatory conduct, in or near the match area, at any time. A team member may not use any facilities, services or equipment to post, transmit, disseminate or otherwise make available any such prohibited communications. A team member may not use this type of language on social media or during any public facing events such as streaming. Section C – Disruptive Behavior/ Insults - A team member may not take any action or perform any gesture directed at an opposing team member, fan, or official, or incite any other individual(s) to do the same, which is insulting, mocking, disruptive or antagonistic. Section D – Abusive Behavior - Abuse of ECAC officials, opposing team members or audience members will not be tolerated. Repeated etiquette violations, including but not limited to touching another player’s computer, body or property will result in penalties. Team members and their guests must treat all individuals attending a match with respect. Section E – Association with Gambling - No team member may take part, either directly or indirectly, in betting or gambling on any results of tournaments or matches. Section F – Penalties - Upon discovery of any ECAC player committing any of the violations outlined above or contained in the ECAC Code of Conduct, the Conference may issue the following penalties: o Verbal Warning o Loss of side selection for future games o Loss of bans for future games o Game forfeiture o Match forfeiture o Suspension o Disqualification - Repeated infractions are subject to escalating penalties, up to, and including, disqualification from future participation in ECAC Esports. It should be noted that penalties may not always be imposed in a successive manner. The ECAC in its sole discretion, for example, can disqualify a player for a first offense if the action of said player is deemed egregious enough to be worthy of disqualification. 8
Article IX – Broadcast The ECAC Network may broadcast any ECAC Esports league or championship competition. League members may also produce and broadcast any ECAC Esports regular season competition they are involved in. Article X – Social Media On social media and streaming platforms, each school and player(s) are to remain respectful and professional as they are not only representing their school, but also ECAC Esports. Penalties - Upon discovery of any ECAC player committing such violation, the Conference may issue the following penalties depending on the offense: o Verbal Warning o Suspension o Disqualification Article XI Commissioners Discretion The Commissioner unilaterally has the right to make decisions about competitors, competitive format, membership obligations, and arising issues, as he or she deems necessary from time to time based upon circumstances that emerge for the good of the members and the Conference 9
