Hot Yoga Intensive & Teacher Training with Kim McMullen (200 Hr Yoga Alliance - Internationally Recognized) Would you like to take your yoga practice and your outlook on life to new levels? This course will be a process of transformation and renewal for those who want to teach and for those who may not want to teach, but who’d like to transform their practice and life. It is an opportunity to learn to meld the perfect blend of technical knowledge and spirituality into your practice and teaching style. It is an opportunity to grow, connect, and contribute. The course includes detailed exploration of the postures, as well as philosophy, sequencing, alignment, ujjayi breathing, adjustments, practice teaching and injury prevention. We will focus on the technical and emotional aspects of practicing and teaching. During the course we will emphasize training the mind, establishing self-esteem, and the integration of breath and movement. We will do practice teaching during “skill sessions” with other participants. This training will set the stage for great teaching, deeper learning and will give participant the skills and confidence necessary to develop into seasoned and high impact teachers. During the intensive you will have the opportunity to discover more about yourself, self-acceptance, inner surrender and discover more about your true nature and gifts. The process will assist participants to reclaim their full potential; discover creativity, find passion, and experience confidence and caring and to share their experience with others. Who should attend? Anyone who seeks a greater understanding of Hot Yoga and its qualities of physical challenge, mental training, deeper spiritual connection and the life skills needed for continued personal and professional growth and enrichment. It is recommended that you have 6 months of yoga practice. Once beginning the process it is essential to attend with an open heart and a strong commitment to yourself and the process! Yoga Alliance Registered Course. This training is registered with the internationally recognized Yoga Alliance. Upon completion attendees will receive a 100hr Yoga Teaching Certificate. Those who continue to complete the level II 100 hr course are also able to register as a 200 hr certified instructor with the Yoga Alliance. Kim McMullen conducts the Intensive/Teacher Training Course. Kim opened the first Hot Yoga studio in Alberta over 12 Years ago. Her studio was the first in Western Canada to offer both Traditional Hot and Hot Vinyasa styles. Kim has been conducting Hot Yoga Trainings for 9 years and is passionate about working with teachers to master the energy, timing and flow required to teach amazing heated yoga classes. She has the reputation of training some of the most technically competent, respected, loved and sought after hot yoga teachers in Western Canada and beyond.
LEVEL I YOGA INTENSIVE & TEACHER TRAINING SCHEDULE Week 1 Sat: April 6th 3:30pm - 8:30pm Sun: April 7th 7:00am - 8:30pm Week 2 Sun: April 14th 7:00am - 8:30pm Week 3 Sun: April 21st 7:00am - 8:30pm Week 4 Sun: April 28th 7:00am - 8:30pm Week 5 Sat: May 4th 2:00pm - 8:30pm Sun: May 5th 7:00am - 9:30pm Attendees must also take a minimum of 3 classes/wk at Breathe Hot Yoga (included in tuition). Additional time is required for homework assignments each week. LEVEL 1 TEACHER TRAINING COURSE (100 Hour Certificate) COURSE DETAILS 1. Authenticity…. understanding who we are, and living a fulfilled life! One of the most important aspects of teaching, or being a happy and fulfilled person, is to live in authenticity. Knowing who we are, and living an authentic life makes for a more fulfilling life. During the course we work towards becoming clearer about who we are, the unique gifts we have to offer the world and what we truly want to create in our lives. When we are clear we automatically attract into our lives people and situations that support us. Many people take this course during times of transition to gain a better understanding of next steps they want to take in life, as well as gaining a better understanding of their yoga practice. 2. Yoga Techniques Posture clinics to include approx 40 yoga postures, covering all postures in Vinyassa and Standard Hot sequences. Each participant will learn how to do the postures correctly for their own specific body. Gain deeper understanding about how to align properly to avoid injury and realize maximum benefits. 3. Yoga Practice There is a requirement to a take a minimum of 3 classes a week, majority need to be at least 75 minute classes. And at least 2 double classes. Half or more of these classes need to be with a senior teacher who can provide feedback if a teaching certificate is desired. 4. Teaching Methodology Learn proper teaching techniques including how to direct, observe, assist and correct participants in a class. Discover how to utilize voice and energy to keep participants involved in the class. 5. Teaching Practicum Participate in practice teaching. Receive feedback and observe others teaching and give them feedback. When others in class are practice teaching provide assisting and alignment to students. 6. Benefits and Contradictions Understand the benefits of yoga in general, and the benefits of specific postures. Understand common injuries that can occur and how to correct students in class to avoid these injuries. Yoga ethics, insurance issues, and dealing with customer issues. 7. Level 1, 100hr course This is a 100 hr course with approx 70 hrs in structured course times, over 20 hrs of yoga practice and 10 hrs of additional homework (assignments and practice instruction). You will receive a 100hr Yoga Teaching Certification upon completion. To become qualified to register with the internationally recognized Yoga Alliance you need to complete both the level one and the level II course.
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS 1. Is this course for people who want to teach or can I attend just to learn more about yoga? Many people attend these training sessions to learn more about the postures, benefits and alignments for their own body and/or to take time to connect to themselves and deepen their yoga practice. Each session typically has a mix of people exploring the possibility of teaching and those attending with the objective of finding more clarity in their life and connection to yoga. 2. Do I need to be a “yoga expert” to take this training? Nope! This training is designed to work with wherever you are at in your yoga journey. It is best to have 6 months of practice prior to attending. People have attended in the past with just a little experience, along side those who have been practicing for many years. The course typically has a nice balance of experience, ages and objectives. It seems the right group always comes together for an amazing experience. 3. Will it be HOT in the room for the whole course?? The course is conducted in normal room temperature unless taking a hot yoga class. During the course the lectures, small group sessions, posture clinics, and practice teaching are all conducted at normal room temperature. The actual yoga classes we take will be done in the heat. 4. Can I teach yoga as soon as I complete this course? Upon completion of the course you will receive a 100hr Yoga Teaching Certificate. Many people who have attended the Calgary sessions (who wanted to teach) have been able to start teaching after obtaining their 100 hr. training certificate. Some studios will hire based on ability and a minimum of a 100hr training certification, other studios look for 200hrs of training. This training follows the Yoga Alliance (YA) guidelines and is a YA registered course, upon completion of the 200hrs. you are eligible to become a YA registered instructor. Some studios are requiring Yoga Alliance Certification, especially in the U.S. but it is getting more common in Canada as well. To obtain the YA certification you must attend a YA certified course. Check with the studio you are interested in teaching as to their requirements. 5. Is my Teacher Training Certificate only good for teaching “Hot Yoga”? Many people teach “non hot” yoga after the training teaching at their place of work, schools community centers or studios that offer yoga in a non heated environment. In the course you learn yoga fundamentals of VF and traditional SH yoga which can be taught in heated or non heated studios or class rooms. 6. What do I need to bring. After you register you will receive more information about what to bring, but basically you simply need to come with an inquiring mind and an open heart…..and get ready for an amazing adventure! 7.
