MISSION STATEMENT
   “The goal of the Texas High School BBQ Cookers
 Association is to enrich the lives of student cookers
through BBQ education, cook offs, promoting family
  values, character development and life skills while
providing educational scholarships and learning that
   supports vocational education. We uphold strict
    guide lines and academic standards that allow
 student cooks to excel in the classroom and in their
 community while achieving their educational goals
                     and dreams."

    Texas High School BBQ Cookers

 students, parents, teachers, schools,
and the industry working together to
     enhance student skills while
becoming leaders in their community.
THSBBQ will help each student excel
  and grow. We provide educational
  programs, events and competitions
   that support career and technical
     education (CTE) in the Texas
             classrooms.

What is a High School BBQ Team?
A high school bbq -team is a group of
a high school students (maximum 5)
that come together to compete in a
bbq cook off preparing 5 different
food categories. The items include –
Beef Brisket, Ribs, Chicken, Beans,
and Dessert for scholarships, prizes,
and bragging rights............very
important in TEXAS!

WHO?
CTSO STUDENTS,TARGET MARKET / DEMOGRAPHIC
 •   Career and Technical High School Students enrolled in secondary schools across
     the country in welding, culinary arts, agriculture, foods, and family consumer
     science classes. Career and Technical Student Organizations.
 •   Student Leadership organizations like Future Farmers of America, The National
     Restaurant Association ProStart Program, Family Career and Community Leaders of
     America, Skills USA, 4-Hand the American Welding Society.

 Example:
 -Texas has 240 High School ProStart Programs with over 29,000 students
 -Texas FFA and the Lone Star state stands at 103,379 students with 1,021 chapters
 - 2,000 agricultural science teachers in Texas
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS - FAQ
Do I need to build -a BBQ Pit to compete?
NO, you can borrow, buy, build, or layaway a pit. Many teams borrow or partner with a local Adult BBQ Cook Off team or FFA.

Do I have to cook all the categories?
YES, you must cook all categories in the BBQ Cook Off to win Overall Prizes. ( Note: Brisket, Ribs, Chicken, Beans, and Dessert are the 5
categories). Individuals may compete in the HS Steak Off for their school as a single person team.

How many students on a team
Up to 5 students total

Can teams be combined from different classes, example: 2 FFA
and 3 Culinary Arts students? YES, but a maximum of 5 students.

Career and Technical Student Organization -CTSO
• CTSO have been proven to be extremely valuable and
  effective instructional tools. A CTSO when implemented
  correctly by a dedicated and trained CTE educator can
  be a integral part of a child's education. CTSO are
  designed to be integrated into curriculum and NOT just
  as extracurricular or add ons. They are much much more
  and research shows they KEEP KIDS IN SCHOOL and in
  CTE PATHWAYS such as Culinary Arts and Agriculture
  while staying in FFA, FCCLA, ProStart, and Skills USA!

Career and Technical Student Organization -CTSO
• Instructional strategies used to develop, improve, and expand occupational
  knowledge and competencies related to a particular subject matter – BBQ
  which increases relevance in the classroom and to the student.
• Enrich and enhance classroom / laboratory learning as an extension of the
  classroom instructional program.
• Presents organized activities for students to gain personal and leadership
  skills, make them more employable, perpetrating them to become more
  productive citizens and assisting then in assuming positive roles in the
  home and community.
• Demonstrate goals and purpose that parallel the philosophy of Career and
  Technical education and the subject matters that they reinforce, and
  compatible with industry workforce needs and trends.

HOW? What is a High School BBQ Club?
A High School BBQ
                -   Club is a group of
students dedicated to learning how to
become better Texans and cookers
through the art of bbq while inspiring
fellowship, service, competition,
teamwork, camaraderie, learning,
hard work, research, planning,
practice, dedication, networking,
public speaking, time management,
and Texas GRIT through BBQ.
What does a High School BBQ Club do?
- Promotes education

- Keeps students in school and CTE career
  pathways
- Creates formal service group on campus to
  serve the campus and community
- Enhances fundraising potential
- Creates and strengthens student
  relationships
- Strengthens community and industry bonds
- Showcases students to the public
- Creates scholarship and learning

Student Eligibility
     "In order to be eligible to compete in any
  HSBBQ cook off, contestants must have passing
grades in all subjects enrolled in a public or private
  high school. Team Advisors are accountable to
 ensure all competing student cookers from their
 respective schools are meeting this requirement
                   for eligibility."

STATE SCHOLARSHIPS GOALS - $35,000 a year
    (Payout from Association Dues, Sponsorships, Regional Registration fees)

Grand Champion – 1st PLACE
$5,000 scholarship
               -   a student ( $25,000 a team)
Reserve Champion – 2nd PLACE
$1,000 scholarship a student ( $5,000 a team)
3rd PLACE
$500 a student ( $2500 a team)

In order to qualify and be invited to
                                   -  the State Championship you must be a registered member/team of the Texas High
 School BBQ Cookers Association by December 1st and in good standing with the Association, your School District, and
                                                     Club Advisor.

               Invitational Breakdown:
Each Regional will have their top 10 High School BBQ
Teams invited and qualify for the State Championship
 and a chance at scholarships and the title of State of
      Texas High School BBQ Grand Champion.
High School Steak Off RULES
              -

Compete in an individual Steak Cook Off Competition
     as part of each Regional event and State
                  Championship.

BBQ PIT /WELDING CHALLENGE
    In order to qualify for the BBQ PIT CHALLNEGE you, your team, or your school must have
welded your BBQ Pit in the 2017-2019 School Year in class as part of Ag Mechanics, Welding, Shop,
                        -
                                     Engineering, or Robotics.
Post Secondary WELDING CHALLENGE
In order to qualify for the Post Secondary Welding CHALLNEGE your school must have registered to be a College Presenter at the 2019-2020
 State Championship. College Welding Teams have 8 hours the day of the State Championship to weld a one of a kind BBQ Pit Trophy onsite
