In – Person Teaching & Learning Details
Student Transportation
Students riding the school bus will be required to complete student registration. If you have not registered your scholar
for a school bus route, please reach out to our main office staff at 219-977-9583. All scholars riding LHA school buses are
required to adhere to all transportation policies and expectations (see attachment). Students will be required to present
their LCPA Transportation Identification Card to the bus monitor every day in order to be welcomed onto the school bus.
Students without a valid LCPA Transportation ID card will NOT be allowed to ride the school bus.

Every scholar will also be required to get their temperatures checked prior to being welcomed onto the school bus. ANY
SCHOLAR WHO HAS A TEMPERATURE OF 100.4 OR ABOVE WILL NOT BE ADMITTED ONTO THE SCHOOL BUS. If a
scholar is not admitted onto the school bus, he/she is responsible for returning home. If a scholar is rejected due to high
temperature, the school bus personnel will notify parent/guardian immediately. If a scholar misses his/her scheduled
pick-up time, parent/guardian is responsible for providing transportation. All scholars riding the school bus MUST wear a
mask and sit two scholars per school bus seat. If a scholar does not have a mask, a mask will be provided.

Bus Policies & Expectations
See attachment for standard LHA policies and expectations for students riding the school bus.

Student Entry Into Building
Bus Rider Entry – Students riding the school bus will have had their temperatures checked on the school bus and if their
temperatures are below 100.4, they will be welcomed into school for the day. Scholars will exit the school bus, enter
through the cafeteria doors, grab breakfast if desired, and proceed to their advisory class to have breakfast in the
classroom. Student entry will begin promptly at 7:15 am through the cafeteria doors. Scholars MUST wear a face mask in
order to enter into the school building. If a scholar does not have a mask, a mask will be provided.

Non-Bus Rider Entry – Scholars arriving to school on their own or being dropped off must enter through the main door.
Prior to entry into the school, scholars will have their temperatures taken and MUST wear a face mask. ANY SCHOLAR
WHO HAS A TEMPERATURE OF 100.4 OR HIGHER WILL NOT BE ALLOWED TO ENTER INTO THE BUILDING. Any scholar
displaying symptoms of COVID-19 will be required to be picked up to go home until clearance from a doctor. Non-bus
riding scholars will be required to follow the health and safety procedures mentioned above prior to being allowed entry
into the building.

Student Dismissal
Dismissal time is 2:30 pm. Scholars will have accessibility of two doors for dismissal: back door & cafeteria door. No
scholar will be allowed to dismiss through the main entry door. Scholars riding the school bus will be required to present
their LCPA Transportation ID prior to be welcomed onto the school bus. Scholars riding the school bus MUST wear a
mask, and sit two to a seat. Scholars will ONLY be allowed to ride the bus they are assigned too. Failure to ride the
assigned school bus could result in disciplinary action. Car riders and walkers will dismiss through the cafeteria doors at

2:30 pm and encouraged to exit school property quickly. Bus riding scholars will be swiftly directed to their assigned
school buses to ensure school buses begin exiting school property by 2:40 pm. Scholars who miss their school bus ride
will be responsible for contacting their parent/guardian for pick-up.

In Person Instruction
Instruction will take place inside traditional classrooms. Instruction will take place as teachers see fit based upon our
approved ACT College Readiness curriculum. Scholars will be assigned their work through Google Classroom (each
classroom will have their own Google Classroom code, which will be provided to scholars and families) and will be
required to submit all work electronically. All instructional materials will be electronic (textbooks are not permissible
during instructional time to ensure the health safety of everyone).

Each classroom will be equipped with a classroom set of Chromebooks to allow scholars to engage in learning during
class time. Scholars will be provided their instructional schedule either during orientation and/or during the first week of
school. Scholars are expected to follow the provided schedule to ensure they satisfy the state of Indiana CORE 40
graduation requirements.

Students will NOT be allowed to share learning materials. Each scholar will be assigned a seat in every class and
expected to sit in their assigned seats for the duration of the class/period. To ensure the health safety of everyone,
scholars will be seated in rows in all classes. Our goal is to provide instruction to scholars as best as possible while
following the CDC health guidelines and maximizing scholars’ learning experiences.

Curriculum & Student Instructional Materials
All curricula are designed based upon ACT College Readiness Standards to ensure scholars are more successful with the
ACT exam. Scholars will NOT have access to textbooks; therefore, all instructional materials and resources will be
provided electronically. Teachers will be required to upload assignments via Google Classroom, and scholars will be
responsible for submitting completed assignments electronically via Google Classroom. Each teacher will provide
scholars with their Google Classroom access code so that scholars can access learning materials and resources both in
school and at home. Parents/Guardians are highly encouraged to use the Google Classroom access code to log into
Google Classroom and support their scholar with academic success.

Google Classroom will be the primary platform for assigning and sharing assignments and learning materials.
Parents/Guardians are encouraged to provide scholars with the essentials needed for learning such as pencils, pens,
notebooks, etc. Please be reminded that scholars will NOT be able to share materials, so it is pertinent that each scholar
comes to school everyday with the necessary tools they need to be successful in all of their classes.

Diverse Learners & English Language Learners
Our diverse learners will be provided academic supports through our Department of Specialized Supports (DSS). Our DSS
department is staffed with five paraprofessionals who push into classrooms to support scholars during instruction and
who pull scholars out when needed to provide individualized support in a smaller setting. The paraprofessional will be in
classrooms to reinforce and supplement instruction that is provided by the teacher. Paraprofessionals will focus on

practicing already acquired skills, minimizing regression in lessons taught, and strengthening comprehension of learned
skills.

All paraprofessionals are required to adhere to the same health safety regulations as teachers. In the Resource Room,
scholars will be assigned seats and desks will be placed strategically to ensure social distancing. All scholars’ academic
support and grading will be based upon the details outlined in their individualized education plan. Scholars and parents
are encouraged to utilize PowerSchool portal to manage and monitor scholar’s academic progress.

Transitions Between Periods
Scholars will be given 5 minutes to transition from one class period to the next. Scholars are encouraged to move swiftly
through the halls and avoid stopping to congregate or socialize with peers. ALL SCHOLARS MUST WEAR A FACE MASK
WHEN TRANSITIONING IN THE HALLS BETWEEN CLASSES. If a scholar is observed without a mask, a staff member will
direct the scholar to put on appropriate face mask. During transitions, scholars will NOT be allowed to stop at lockers for
any reason.

Student Lunch
Lunch will be provided to all scholars. Lunch will be conducted inside classrooms to ensure we adhere to the social
distancing guidelines and regulations communicated by the CDC.

Student Attendance
Student attendance will be taken every day in all classes. Parents are encouraged to register for alerts through
PowerSchool to support with the monitoring of their scholar’s attendance.

Student Grades
Teachers will be required to submit 3 grades minimum each week per scholar per class. Teachers submit grades through
PowerSchool. Parents are encouraged to sign-up for PowerSchool access to help monitor scholars’ academic success.
Progress reports will be reviewed weekly with scholars during their seminar classes. Paper copies of progress reports will
NOT be distributed; which is why it is imperative that parents/guardians sign up for PowerSchool access. Progress report
grades will be updated every Thursday of each week. Scholars’ grades will be based upon the work they complete via
Google Classroom as well as the formative assessments they take during instructional time.

Assessments
Students will be required to take all applicable assessments according to their grade level: BOY & EOY Pre-ACT, Quarterly
ACT Periodics, PSAT, ISTEP, Accuplaser, & ASVAB. Details of assessments will be provided at a later time and based upon
the grade level participating in the administration of the exam.

Building Sanitation
LHA’s 2020 – 2021 school calendar will be provided to all families. The school building will be shut down bi-weekly to be
cleaned thoroughly and sanitized according to the CDC guidelines. On the days that the school is closed for cleaning,
scholars will engage in eLearning and will be responsible to engage in all virtual lessons and assigned electronic
assignments via Google Classroom. During sanitation and disinfection, the school building will be closed. The calendar
dates for bi-weekly sanitation has been identified through our LHA school calendar.

limitations provided by the CDC and IHSAA, we will update information for after-school activities and sports as they are
released. Therefore, all scholars will be required to exit the building at 2:30pm at dismissal.

                                   Virtual Teaching & Learning Details

Logging – In Expectations
Scholars are expected to log in daily and complete all assignments uploaded to the Google Classroom online learning
platform. Each scholar will be provided a full schedule that includes classes to satisfy CORE 40 graduation requirements.
Although scholars are not meeting in person, scholars will need to meet the minimum requirements as outlined by the
state of Indiana. Teachers will be required to upload instructional videos based upon lessons outlined in their weekly
lesson plans and/or curriculum maps. The frequency of instructional videos is based upon individual teachers, the course
being taught, and the content being presented. It is NOT guaranteed that there will be instructional videos everyday or
for every lesson/skill. However, teachers will be available to problem solve, trouble shoot, and/or answer questions
from scholars.

Teachers will be required to utilize Google Classroom online platform to upload assignments. Scholars working virtually
will be responsible for logging in to EACH class on their schedule daily and submitting all assignments assigned on
Google Classroom. Teachers will be required to provide their Google Classroom access code to scholars via their LCPA
email ONLY. STAFF AND STUDENTS ARE REQUIRED TO COMMUNICATE AND INTERACT ONLY USING THEIR ASSIGNED
LCPA EMAIL ADDRESS. Scholars are expected to log into their Google Classroom (or other online platform
communicated by their teacher(s)) daily.

Instruction
Instruction virtually will be based upon the videos uploaded by individual teachers. There is not a required format for
teachers to use to upload videos nor is there a requirement for the frequency/frequency/number of videos teachers
upload. Teachers are encouraged to upload instructional videos as they see fit that supports their instructional lessons
and curriculum maps. Scholars and parents are highly encouraged to email teachers if there are questions about the
content of any instructional video uploaded. Scholars working virtually will be held to the same standards and
expectations as those scholars who are attending school in person. There is not a specific time for scholars to log in to
access learning; however, scholars and parents/guardians understand that it is the responsibility of the scholar and
parent/guardian to log in to Google Classroom (or other communicated online platform) and complete assigned work.

2020 – 2021 Entry Plan

Diverse Learners & English Language Learners
Paraprofessionals will support our diverse learners and ELL scholars through our online Google Classroom platform.
Paraprofessional will have access to teachers’ Google Classroom accounts and can lend support to individual students so
they are able to complete and submit assignments/assessments in a timely fashion. Paraprofessionals are also able to
provide specific feedback to scholars through Google Classroom based upon the supports and intervention outlined in
IEPs.

Student Grades
Scholars attending school virtually will be required to adhere to all communicated deadlines by individual teachers for
individual courses. Scholars attending school virtually will also be given 3 grades per week. Parents/Guardians are highly
encouraged to sign up for PowerSchool to access scholars’ grades and support with monitoring academic success.
Teachers and support staff will be available to support and assist scholars attending school virtually via email. We ask
that scholars and parents/guardians allow up to 24 hours for a response from teacher(s) and/or support staff.

By choosing the online learning options, parents/guardians and scholars understand that the option to switch will
NOT be valid until second semester January 2021. If a parent/guardian chooses to switch to in-person learning, the
parent/guardian understands that he/she must contact the Registrar to modify their option for learning. Options for
learning can only be modified by the scholar’s legal parent/guardian and the legal parent/guardian’s information must
be accurate and updated in PowerSchool.

Assessments
Students will be required to take all applicable assessments according to their grade level: BOY & EOY Pre-ACT Interims,
Quarterly ACT Periodics, PSAT, ISTEP, Accuplaser, & ASVAB. Details of assessments will be provided at a later time and
based upon the grade level participating in the administration of the exam.
