TRUMAN MIDDLE SCHOOL – SCHOOL IMPROVEMENT PLAN – 2017/2018 District Improvement Plan Goal: Academic Excellence – All students will perform at or above grade level and achievement/opportunity gaps among all student groups will be eliminated. Mathematics Improvement Plan Goals for Truman Middle School: We will use i-Ready fall screener results for our baseline data. (Student numbers are based on actual number of students tested fall of 2017) 6th grade 36% (79) students to 56% (144) students 7th grade 31% (61) students to 51% (101) students 8th grade 29% (69) students to 49% (119) students Mathematics Improvement Plan Goals for Truman Middle School: We will increase the percent of students at or above standards by an average of 20% per grade level as measured by i-Ready screener after the Spring administration of the assessment. Strategies: Align instructional strategies of math to meet the rigor of DOK levels 3 & 4. Use i-Ready mastery assessments bi-monthly in order to monitor students’ learning Preview i-ready mastery assessments for instructional planning Provide additional during advisory for teacher to analyze student assessment data Use Engaged New York primary curriculum to plan instructional strategies Co-plan with a focus on differentiated instruction in order to challenge advance learners Co-plan with a focus on differentiated instruction in order to enhance the instruction for our challenging learners Effectively use the co-teach model to increase academic achievement for students with IEPs. Use Title-Poverty funding to offer after school intervention for students not meeting standard on i-ready mastery assessments. Providing quarterly skill development classes for student not meeting standard on i-ready mastery Use online Think Trough Math learning intervention strategies to increase proficiency for level 1 and 2 students. Make use of frequent formative assessments in mathematics classrooms at all grade levels. Make use of research based high yield instructional strategies to increase student engagement. Collaborate vertically as well as grade level in order to collectively ensure all Truman students learn math at a high level.

District Improvement Plan Goal: Partnerships - We will fully engage our parents, community and staff in the education of our students. Partnership Goals for Truman Middle School: By January of 2018 we will establish a school-wide equity team to reach out to parents to provide a more inclusive learning environment for our students, their parents and guardians, and community members. Partnership Goals for Truman Middle School: We will increase our PTSA membership by 50% for parents and guardians. We will also increase the number of staff members signing up for PTSA to 100%. No Suspensions and Expulsions Goals for Truman Middle School: By June of 2018, we will reduce 6th and 8th grade suspensions and expulsions by 10% in each grade level. No Suspension and Expulsions Goal for Truman Middle School: During the 2017/2016 school year we had 202 major discipline incidents that lead to a suspension or emergency expulsion.
