Welcome to Worship at St. Matthew’s July 14, 2019 Welcome. We invite you to lay before God all cares and concerns and enter into worship, trusting him for all you need today. On this summer day, we come to praise God and receive his word for us, in the name of the Father, Son and Holy Spirit. Amen. Introduction for the Day: To love the Lord your God with all your heart, soul, strength, and mind is to reflect God’s mercy in responding to one’s neighbor. That mercy found its most profound expression in the “gospel that has come to you” – namely in life, death, and resurrection of Jesus Christ. That gospel mercy come to us again today: at the font, at the altar, and from the pulpit. It is very near to you. Communion: All baptized Christians who celebrate the real presence of Christ in the bread and wine are invited to the Lord’s Table at the 7:30 service. Gluten-free wafers are available if you ask your communion server. Those who desire juice instead of regular wine, please tell this to the communion assistant. Due to the weight of the communion trays, you may be asked to take your glass of wine from the tray as it is presented to you. TODAY! Mission Trip Story to be Shared at Worship Services on July 14th The large group of teens and adults who recently spent a week in Houston repairing homes damaged by Hurricane Harvey will share stories of their experience on Sunday, July 14th at the 8:30 and 10:15 services. We look forward to sharing the highlights or our week of serving through word, music, and images. Altar Flowers and a Library Book have been provided by Leslie & Pat Gardner in honor of their 31st wedding anniversary. Prayer Cards are collected each Sunday during the Hymn of the Day. You are welcome to fill out a prayer card for any prayer needs that you are aware of. Children are also welcome to participate in this. Please print as clearly as possible for the pastors to be able to read and share the request as desired. These bulletin announcements can be seen beginning each Friday on our website: www.stmattslutheran.org. If you wish to be added to the Friday bulletin email list, please sign up on the bottom of the Events Sign-Up panel in today’s bulletin (or contact Sonja Mohr at sonjamohr@me.com) and you will begin receiving the announcements as well as other notices on Fridays.

A Word Concerning Immigration from our ELCA Office of Advocacy and AMMPARO The Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA) has a strong history of welcoming the stranger. Through AMMPARO, this has been strengthened. The commitment of the church to welcome migrants, refugees, asylum seekers and their families has been strengthened by our relationships with companion churches and our partnership with Lutheran and faith-based organizations, particularly Lutheran Immigration and Refugee Service (LIRS) in the United States and globally through the Lutheran World Federation. Family unity and the acknowledgment that there is God-given dignity in all people has been a cornerstone of advocacy by the ELCA, and we know that tearing families apart and disrupting communities goes against our Social Statement and fair and humane immigration policies.
