CREDIT OVERV Students are required to complete: IEW 120 credit hours of coursework with a cumulative GPA of 2.0 or higher. Some majors require more than 120 hours, usually to meet accreditation standards. See your department for details. 45 credits must be in General Education courses, of which you’ll need: Composition & Literature (2 courses), History (2 courses), Humanities & Social Sciences (3 courses), Natural Science, Math, Computer Science (4 courses) and Health Fitness (1 course). Incoming freshman and transfer students are automatically pre-registered for the first semester of classes. After completing the first semester, students will register themselves for classes on GullNet. See page below for step-by-step directions on registering for your second semester of classes. Each incoming student is assigned an academic advisor. Once a semester, during program planning, students meet with their advisor to plan courses for the following semester. Your Residence Hall We cover all the basics! By coordinating with your roommate, you can make a plan of what you need to bring. Your bed Your mattress will be a twin, extra-long and measures 36 x 80 inches. The size sheets you’ll need to bring is twin extra-long (twin XL). All halls on the main campus, with the exception of Dogwood Village, have the loftable bed system. The bed can either be lofted all the way up or down, depending on student preference. To loft your bed, please submit a request to one of the Housing and Residence Life staff members. If you have not received yours, or have misplaced it, please visit the Gull Card Office, located in the (Dining) Commons inside the SU Bookstore. • Pack the car! You can find a suggested packing list on our website at: www.salisbury.edu/whattobring/ HEAD TO CAMPUS 1. Locate your residence hall and route to campus at: www.salisbury.edu/campusmap 2. Follow directions on your parking tag that you received in the mail. 3. University Police will direct you to the appropriate lot. 4. Stuck in traffic, car breakdown or late start? Call us at 410-543-6040 to alert us of your late arrival. CHECK-IN When you arrive on campus at your residence hall, you will be greeted by a helpful staff member who will welcome you. At check-in, you’ll get your Gull Card programmed for your room. Your GullCard will serve as your meal card, room key and student ID. FROM THE CAR TO YOUR ROOM Families may pull cars to designated areas near the building to unload their vehicles during check-in. Everyone will want to park as close as possible to his or her hall, so please unload as quickly as possible. Then, park your vehicle in a designated parking lot. ARE CARTS OR HAND TRUCKS AVAILABLE? Some hand trucks and carts are available, but because of the number of students moving in, we suggest that you bring your own to make it a smoother process. GET TO KNOW YOUR COMMUNITY • 1-3 p.m.: Swing by Survival of Arrival on Devilbiss Mall to check out local restaurants, businesses and organizations. Pick up some swag and giveaways. • 3 p.m.: Say goodbye to your family before Parent/Family Reception with President, Dr. Wight. • 3-4 p.m.: Meet your Orientation group and follow your Orientation Leader for the rest of the fun-filled day! 18
Getting Your Mail Each student living on campus is assigned their own mailbox at the SU Post Office located in the bottom level of the (Dining) Commons. Each mailbox has a combination lock, which is issued at the beginning of the semester. Mail is delivered and sorted into student mailboxes at 10 a.m. and 2 p.m., Monday-Friday. When you receive a package, you will receive a notification via email. You’ll be able to pick up your package at the service window using your GullCard.
