www.boroughofwenonah.com March 2021 Spring Issue Message from your Mayor Former Chief of the Wenonah Police James R. Miller passed away on Friday, December 18th, 2020. Chief Miller, a graduate of Glassboro State University (now Rowan University), served in the U.S. Army before he became a police officer for the Borough of Wenonah in 1957. In 1959 he was promoted to Chief of the Wenonah Police, where he would serve 39 years, holding the title of the longest running chief of police in the state of New Jersey. Chief Miller called Wenonah home along with his daughters Linda Sheehan and Judy Leary and their families. Chief Miller helped shape our Borough to become the community that it is today. His contributions and his memory will forever be a part of the story of Wenonah. John R. Dominy, Mayor 1
Mantua Township Police Department Proudly serving Mantua Township and Wenonah Borough 405 Main Street Mantua, NJ 08051 Brian L. Grady Darren E. White mantuapd@mantuatownship.com Lieutenant Chief of Police (856) 468-1920 Fax (856) 464-0237 Shaun J. Butler Lieutenant After the winter that we had, spring is a welcome sign! As the weather gets warmer and the days get longer, here a few things to remember to keep you safe. • Always put your windows up in your vehicle and lock your doors when you get out. It only takes a minute for an opportunistic thief to ruin your day. • Remember that everyone under the age of 18 is required to wear a helmet while riding a bicycle. • When walking, please make sure that you cross the street at a marked cross walk and if you are driving, please make sure you yield to pedestrians in the cross walk! We are starting a new service for households with autistic members. Essentially, your address will be entered into our dispatch system so if we need to go to your house for anything, and there is something specific we should know about the autistic member, we will know before we arrive. Please email Ptl. Krista Sheilds for details or to be entered at KMSheilds@MantuaTownship.com If you have unwanted medicine at home, you can come drop it off at our police station right in our lobby. There is a drop box and we accept everything except liquids and needles. With vacation season coming up, did you know that you can fill out a quick and simple form and the police will come check on your house while you are gone? That form can be found on our website at www.MantuaTownship.com under the Police Departments section In other news, we added a new crossing guard to help out in front of the school. There were too many vehicles that were driving past the barricades that were installed to keep the children safe. Have you seen our new police vehicle design? Keep an eye out for it and let us know what you think! 2
