Dear Fellow Parishioners,
My name is Paul Demeyer, you might know me from the 8 or 10AM Mass
on Sundays. I’m the guy who comes in with a wheelchair and who sits close to
the choir. I joined OMGC almost 20 years ago after I had been away from the
Church for about 30 years. Not away from God, but from the practice and the
sacraments of the Catholic Church.
by Paul Demeyer When I was 23, I started the practice of meditation and contemplation,
which was my daily prayer. At OMGC, I became involved with the Youth Ministry,
the Faith Sharing group, and the Men’s Cornerstone retreats. All have been a blessing and a way to share my
experience in contemplation, being in the presence of God, endeavoring to be with God rather than worry about
worldly things.
Leah Buturain, a Spiritual Director at our parish, introduced me to the World Community of Christian
Meditation (WCCM.org). The meditation technique they use is based on teachings of the early Mothers and
Fathers of the Desert. Basically, it is the repetition of a single prayer phrase of word, also called a mantra, a
simple prayer helps us to come into the deeper place of our being, where thoughts will not necessarily disappear
but a place where we disconnect from their meaning and open our hearts to God in the present moment.
The community was started by Fr. John Main, OSB (a Benedictine monk). He irst learned about
meditation from a Hindu monk when he worked for the British government in Malaysia. Then after he became a
monk, reading John Cassian (AD 360 – c. 435), he discovered that the early Christian monks too had this simple
way of contemplative prayer.
At the end of 2019, Fr. Laurence Freeman, current head of the WCCM, was visiting at the Church of the
Good Shepherd where there is a small meditation group that gathers weekly. I was introduced to him and when
he heard I work in animation he told me how he always hoped to make an animated ilm on Christian Meditation
to demystify it, make it more accessible to people. I told him I’d think about it and maybe over the next few years
work on a project with him. Then when the pandemic started my studio work got very light, and working from
home I was able to start thinking about it. I wrote a little script and started to make the storyboard etc. When Fr.
Laurence inally was able to give it his full attention we had regular Zoom talks and worked together further on
the script and by the end of 2020 I had a 9 minute animated ilm on “How to do Christian Meditation.”
Since then it’s been dubbed into 8 languages. As I write this, I’m inishing the Dutch version. Being of
Belgian origin I speak both French and Flemish (pretty much the same as Dutch). Anyway, I wanted to share this
with the parish. I’m giving you links to the English and Spanish versions. The Spanish voice over recording was
sent to me from Colombia. It’s been amazing how much enthusiasm there’s been from the community and I truly
enjoyed making this video, it’s lighthearted but explains what the idea is and what the pitfalls are. So please
watch this with your children and give this form of prayer a try, meditation is also very refreshing and helpful for
people who have stressful lives. But we do it to get closer to God, not just to relax, which is only one of its effects.
At present, there is no meditation group at OMGC. We do a short meditation in the Faith Sharing group,
which is now still being held on Zoom. We meet every 1st and 3rd Tuesday of the month at 6PM. If you’re

La comunidad fue iniciada por el Padre John Main, OSB (un monje benedictino). Aprendió sobre la meditació n
por primera vez de un monje hindú cuando trabajaba para el gobierno britá nico en Malasia. Luego, despué s de

Desde entonces, se ha traducido a 8 idiomas. Mientras escribo esto, estoy terminando la versió n holandesa.
Siendo de origen belga, hablo tanto el francé s como la lengua lamenca (má s o menos lo mismo que el idioma

trampas. Ası́ que, por favor, miren esto con sus hijos y prueben esta forma de oració n, la meditació n tambié n es muy
refrescante y ú til para las personas que tienen vidas estresantes. Pero lo hacemos para acercarnos a Dios, no solo para
relajarnos, que es solo uno de sus efectos.
Actualmente, no hay ningú n grupo de meditació n en nuestra parroquia de Nuestra Madre del Buen Consejo.
Hacemos una breve meditació n en el grupo de “Faith Sharing” (Compartiendo la Fe), que todavı́a se lleva a cabo en
Zoom. Nos reunimos cada 1er y 3er martes del mes a las 6 de la tarde. Si Ud. está interesado en unirse a este grupo,
envı́eme un correo electró nico. Ademá s, si está interesado en un grupo de meditació n en la parroquia, comunı́quese
conmigo, ya que me gustarı́a comenzar uno nuevamente y decidir en un tiempo para tener la meditació n en nuestra
parroquia.

First Communion Preparation classes via Distance
Learning. These Religious Education/CCD classes will be
conducted on Saturdays for students at home via Zoom
and Google classrooms.
Here is a summary:
Fall session will begin on 9/11/2021 to 5/14/2022.
Classes will be held 9 am-10 am every Saturday
(except during Holidays)
First Communion Preparation is a two-Year Program.

Estimados Padres,
Nuestra parroquia de Nuestra Madre del Buen Consejo continuará ofreciendo clases de preparación
para la Primera Comunión a través del aprendizaje a distancia. Estas clases de Educación Religiosa /
CCD se llevarán a cabo los sábados para los estudiantes en casa a través de Zoom y Google.
Aquí tienen un resumen:
La sesión del otoño comenzará el nueve de noviembre 2021 hasta el 14 de mayo 2022
Las clases se llevarán a cabo de 9 de la manana a las 10 de la manana. Todos los sábados (excepto
