  Flea beetle-specific RNAi-based pesticides

 Resumen        Flea beetles (species of the genus Phyllotretra) are serious pests of cruciferous crops, causing millions of dollars
                losses each year, despite the use of chemical pesticides. Our current pesticides are broad-spectrum in their activity,
                killing not just the pests, but also many non-target species, including beneficial insects such as pollinators and
                predators. Here, an alternative set of pesticides, based on double- stranded RNA (dsRNA), is shown to be effective at
                killing flea beetles when the dsRNAs are applied to a leaf surface and fed to the insects. Insects that fed on leaves
                sprayed with the dsRNAs died within 8 days of first exposure, but also showed reduced feeding activity within several
                days, thereby reducing feeding damage to the plants. Importantly, the dsRNAs were designed to be specific for the
                flea beetles, and when delivered to non-target beetles, no adverse effects were observed, illustrating the specificity of
                this new type of pesticide.

                production, so that the purposes of reducing pesticide environmental pollution and reducing the occurrence and
                development of drug resistance of germs are achieved, wherein the wheat straw ethanol crude extract and eugenol
                both show a synergistic effect in a ratio range of 50:1 to 1:35, the synergistic effect is maximum in a ratio of 30:1, and
                a synergistic coefficient is 1.87, after compounding, germs are not prone to have drug resistance, and environmental
                pollution is not easily caused.

                well as can effectively kill bacteria in a target place or a target substance without problems of resistance to

 Resumen        The present invention relates to novel isolated bacterial strains,
                which are members of the genus Paenibacillus, originally
                isolated from soil and showing antagonistic activity against a
                broad range of pathogens and being capable of producing
                antimicrobial metabolites. It was found that the strains Lu16774
                and Lu17007 belong to a novel subspecies named
                Paenibacillus polymyxa ssp. plantarum while the strain
                Lu17015 belongs to a novel species which is proposed to be
                Paenibacillus epiphyticus. The present invention also relates to
                microbial pesticide compositions comprising at least one of
                such novel bacterial strains, whole culture broth or a cell-free
                extract or a fraction thereof or at least one metabolite thereof,
                and/or a mutant of at least one of said novel bacterial strains
                having all the identifying characteristics of the respective
                bacterial strain or whole culture broth, cell-free extract, fraction
                and/or metabolite of the mutant thereof showing antagonistic
                activity against plant pathogens. The present invention also
                relates to a method of controlling or suppressing plant
                pathogens or preventing plant pathogen infections by applying
                such composition. The present invention also relates to novel
                fusaricidin-type compounds which are metabolites produced by
                the strains of the present invention.

  Bait composition for a pest

 Resumen        A bait composition for ingestion by a pest comprising a poison
                for killing the pest and at least one of (preferably at least two
                of): an insect growth regulator (IGR); a larvicide; or an
                insecticide, for minimising or controlling the propagation of an
                insect pest from the pest’s carcass. The poison may be a
                rodenticide and the insect pest may be flies. The IGR may be
                one or more of: Methoprene; hydroprene; diflubenzuron;
                tefenozide; RH 5849; pyriproxyfen; chromafenozide;
                methoxydenozide; diofenolan; fuenozide; lufenuron; Egyptian
                essential oils; azadirachtin; an azasteroid for inhibiting sterol
                uptake, transport, and/or use in a larva; or extracts of: celery,
                fenugreek, mustard, rosemary, anise, lettuce, neem, Persian
                lilac, or chinaberry tree. The larvicide may be one or more of: a
                DOPA decarboxylase inhibitor; methyl DOPA; benserazide;
                carbi-DOPA; methyl tyrosine; or a pathogenic fungus. The
                IGR/larvicide/insecticide may be encapsulated in a
                biodegradable material. The poison may include one or more
                of: an anticoagulant; ergocalciferol (vitamin D2); or
                cholecalciferol (vitamin D3) and the bait may be a natural bait
                composition. The amount of IGR/insecticide/larvicide may be
                tailored according to: the pest the bait is intended for; the insect
                pest expected; and the mass of the bait. The bait may be in the
                form of solid body e.g. pellets, grain, blocks, and the
                IGR/insecticide/larvicide may be distributed homogenously throughout the solid body in the amount of 0.01-50 mg. T
